How can depression be differentiated with Social Phobia or GAD? |
How can depression be differentiated with Social Phobia or GAD?
I have been seeing a doc for 3-4 years. The reason I visited him for
the firt time was for depression, which he found out that i was
bipolar. The manic or depressing episodes ara gone in my perspective. I
had a great manic time before. So I know what it is like.
Telling my doc that I am ok with bipolar, I told him that I am anxious
when talking to people face to face, when i am outside. I had this long
years ago. But I couldnt name it. He told me I am social phobic. And
send me to therapy.
Realizing the anxious moments even in home, watching tv, eating etc. I
found out that this related to GAD. Anyway, I couldn't visit my doc
lastly he has been out the city. I had very bad moments and went to
another doc.
He listened to me, he told me that I am in depression. He told me,
depression is anxiety. But I am always anxious, I mean for 7-8 years I
have been social phobic.
For me this SP and lastly my GAD is making me depressive.
But for him (he only saw me once), it is depression related to bipolar
thing.
So I want to learn if anybody has an idea: How can depression be
differentiated with Social Phobia or GAD?
IS SP OR GAD CAUSED BECAUSE OF DEPRESSION? OR DEPRESSION MAKES YOU
SOCIAL PHOBIC?

SP stands for Social Phobia. Severe SP relates to GAD.
I am telling what is the different between GAD and depression. How
would you differentiate? One doc tells me these severe anxiety is
depression. I did have a depression before. I think it was not like
this. Its like anxious thoughts are making me not happy.
What do you think?
GAD is when you are chronically anxious about just about everything
(or, for that matter, nothing much in particular). Depression is,
well, depression -- having a chronically low mood. Being anxious about
everything, not surprisingly, can go hand in hand with depression and
can even lead to it. But diagnostically, the two are distinct
disorders...you can just have them both at the same time (i.e.,
comorbidly).
And while social phobia, or social anxiety, and GAD are both anxiety
disorders, they are also distinct, diagnosis-wise, from one another --
although, again, you can have them comorbidly. For example, I am the
owner of a handful of anxiety disorders along with my depression
diagnosis...the therp I saw for diagnosis took the lazy person's way
out and just termed the whole mess of them "anxiety disorder not
otherwise specified" (or "ADNOS"). Well, that's not entirely accurate:
the anxiety disorders could have been specified...it just would have
taken quite a few more initialisms to do so.

I have been depressed and free of social phobia and I have been social
phobic without depression. Nowadays I get depressed like a normie; that is,
when external causes make a negative impact on me and I am not social phobic
with the Joe you find in the street, but with close friends I have always
had some sort of phobia which has decreased over time. I think to say that
depression is anxiety is *****. I have also been depressed without
anxiety.

They have different symptoms.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
