You have to go through a grieving process and it takes time. Even though he
treated you bad, you realised that you deserved better and let him go, but
it does not make it hurt any less. There are no miracle fix me ups for a
broken heart, just time. You need to get out and do other things, try
something new, meet some new people.

Hi, Lorna. Maybe it's (just?) (partly?) an ego-reaction thing. I
learned from sad (but interesting) experience that all a
marginally-connected, less-than-engrossing girl had to do to make me go
completely bonkers over her was to dump me. And it was all just ego.
Even now, all Katy has to do to get my undivided (and, eventually,
affectionate) attention is to slam me about something. So, knowing how
it works doesn't really alleviate it, but at least I can smile at it.
Sorry, I know that you're in no shape or circumstance to smile, but I
believe in you, that, as you keep trying to survive, and even make
whatever best you can of what life gives you, you'll come out OK. I'm
rooting for you, and for the best for you, whatever that may be.

i'm sure you mean this question rhetorically, but that's the chance
you take when you post in a public forum.
you do know what to do. "How can I love someone so much who treats me
so bad?" you love them from a distance. you remove yourself from the
area, love them from a place where they can't hurt you like that
anymore. you turn your back and you walk away because protecting
yourself from that sort of senseless pain is not selfish, it's
survival, and everyone needs to protect themselves when they can.
if you're waiting for this person to change, you're probably waiting
in vain. and if waiting is the answer, there's nothing wrong with
removing yourself from the situation and protecting yourself while
you're waiting. you say, "i love you, but you hurt me. i can't allow
you to do that anymore. i will always love you, but i will not be
with you until you stop hurting me." then you leave.
