Object: How do people accomplish basic tasks?
x-no-archive: yes
I don't get how I can spend so much time accomplishing so very little.
I blink, & the day is gone. I blink twice, and a week is gone, and I've
done almost nothing, and I barely remember what happened during the
week. The stress is crushing. I just spin spin spin my wheels, and
watch the clock swirl around. Lately I feel so disconnected from the
real world, like everything is just a dream that goes faster and faster,
nothing around me is real.

Well, actually, I've been this way my whole life. My senior year in
high school, I did a semester of independent study, just for fun. (I
got on this big Michelangelo kick after reading "The Agony & the
Ecstasy".) So, no pressure on this course, it was all me. Of course, I
dorked around all semester, and threw together a paper during the last
week. Literally typing it up with my dad the night before it was due.
And my teacher wrote something like "good paper, but you're better be
prepared, you can't take your parents with you to college". I mean, how
the heck did he know?! Well, that's the story of my life. I've been
like this forever. I work hard now than I did then, but I'm still so
disorganized and frazzled. It's a tiny little janitorial service, I
can't keep my head above water.

you're so busy trying to take care of the very basics right
now. working hard while taking care of your wife, and worrying
about her. major stress. it seems to you like you're doing
nothing, but your everyday life is more than many people could
handle. your life right now is like a dream. i'm sure the
shock hasn't really resolved yet. you had a major loss. it
hasn't been very long.
over time, months, life will become more routine. then you can
focus on your other accomplishments. from where i stand, it
seems like you're doing a very good job of holding yourself
together.
i hope things ease up on you soon, thor. then you'll look back
and wonder how you got through it.

Lisa is right.
FWIW, if I really establish a habit, basic tasks become
less draining and more routine.
Lessee... hanging up the keys and ID badge carrier
on the same hook (which I put up) ended searching for them.
Big success, huh?
Of course the subway routes had all kinds of changes
this weekend.

that might be dissociation, that's something that happens to me
quite often... in a way it has it's rewards, in a way it doesn't,
everything has it's ups and it's downs... detachment can be enormously
helpful at times... and it can make things worse at the same time...

Maybe. Today I started to try to track what I do during the day, to see
where I bleed time. I just wrote brief notes along my time line in my
Day-Timer, but I'm thinking of starting a full blown journal. Haven't
done that in 12+ years, last time I did, it was filled with some pretty
ugly stuff.
