Heck no. Jerry's death meant the end of the Dead, but his wasn't the first
death.
The first member of the Dead we lost was Pigpen (Ron McKernan), in 1973. He
was one of the original band members. The Dead had a lot of personnel come
and go.
Brent Mydland comes to me off the top of my head; he was another keyboard
guy and he died in 1990. There was another guy who did keyboards with them
for a while; he was married to Donna Godchaux the vocalist (female vocals
on Terrapin Station, Sugar Magnolia, etc); he died too, although I think he
wasn't active with the band at the time of his death (I think? It was
somewhere in the early 80s I think?).
I don't wanna try to remember if there were more. It makes me too sad. I
really, really miss Jerry. But the music never dies.
