I have 2 boys, of whom one is a teenager, the other a pre-teen.
For awhile, they took martial arts together. I say no (and
"stop") a lot. There's no way I could count.

I try to explain my negation, rather than use a bald 'no'.

just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

More often than not these days. I used to try and please everyone by
saying "yes" and doing whatever dumb task they could have done
themselves (however humans manipulate - if they can see a way they
can get someone else to do they don't want to bother doing themselves)
Managers don't like that as they want what the company wants done,
not ad-hoc time consuming shite the customer is not likely to pay for,
however accept free of charge. That's why companies put in place
procedures on what employees are supposed to do. It works both ways
though - you end up designed boring web sites or documentation for
those
folk - however it is prolly best that way.
Henry Ford got it all right, employ lazy people, however make them
come up with the goods - the least labour intensive method then
surfaces.
