Sounds good. And I like it's HP because then I do not pay import taxes (Free

Don't get me wrong I love Plextor. They're a company still devoted to
quality and are about the only driving force. When Plextor hits 52x or
something...then the rest of the field will horn in.
Most of their drives will give you years of solid service in my experience.
But
They offer a product that is becoming a commodity. If I get a Lite-On I
now have the BurnProof technology found in the Plex but costs half as
much or so.
And if it dies and early death because quality is low, we're talking
only needing to schill out another $50-60.
Do you'd have to have the drive die on you, out of warranty, and then
you'd have paid Plex costs... Dilemma, and a numbers game.
*I'd like to suggest Asus branded drives. Good quality feel, seemingly
bulletproof, conservative design, but the shop I work at...well 3 years
and I can't recall having to RMA more than 1 or 2 Plexes. But I didn't
have to take care of Lite On, LG or any other manufacurers really
(BTWL: LG drives are seem to be quite quiet if that's something that
matters to you.

Nope, I just picked up a top of the line Sony that will handle every
stupid format change that the DVD industry can throw at me for $129. Now
this is a price from a wholesaler, but they HAVE become consumer
attainable and rather solid now.
Mine was OEM and came with a copy of NTI DVD Maker software, I didn't
even bother installing it. It's just cheap bundle-ware. I use Nero and
it's done a great job for me. (latest patch of course, so I can assure
drive support within Nero)
I WABNT a copy of Roxio's wares, apparently they've got an app that make
backing up your DVD collection painless. I just don't have the money.
(BTW: If you too want a copy, perhaps a shady group buy would work. drop
me a line so I know what kind of interest is.)

My drive is also Sony. But I have grown not to give much for the big name:
"Sony". I have bought many of their products, and eventually I regret having
bought Sony.
I have the latest version of Roxio Easy CD and DVD creator. But I always use
Nero. It is for me a more decent burning tool. If you are not very concerned
about legal rights, I can forward it to you.
