Object: How much do we really know each other here?
I was talking on the phone for a long time last night with my
cousin...She's in her early 80's now...We don't see each other very
often(maybe once a year on average),but we've always had a very good
relationship, and have always been very fond of each other...Sadly,she
has cancer, but she's still seems in basically good spirits...She's
always been a very happy, upbeat person...While we were talking,in part
about old times,I thought again about how little we really know about
each other here.Of course you can get some sense of a person by the
things they talk about, how they talk, you get some sense of their
personality, just as you do when you meet people in person,or are
aquiantances with people...However,When you think about it,we really
don't know all that much about each other.Especially if we don't email
each other a lot...I think that's one of the reasons I get very
frustrated when I feel like someone here is turning me into a
caricature,a one dimensional cartoon...because basically,they don't
know what I was doing on March 17th,1982...They don't where I was
going to school, what my home situation was, what was going on in my
life back then...nothing.And I get upset at myself when I turn people
into one dimensional cartoons.I know I have a tendancy to that as
well...I don't know what people here were doing on March
17th,1982,either...what was going on in there lives back then...I just
think that we all share parts of ourselves here...At least I do.I
don't think there's anything wrong with that.Experimenting, trying on
different roles, sharing differrent parts of ourselves,to me that's
healthy and normal...I just get the sense that while I tend to
overcomplicate people,other people sometimes oversimplify
people.Personally,I'd rather overcomplicate people...At least then
your're givving people the benefit of the doubt, your being open minded
and charitable towards people, instead of putting people into rigid
boxes...If I had to pick one extreme I'd pick overcomplicating...
