Object: How to stop thinking?
Hello!
Most of you are probably much more experienced in dealing with that sort
of thing I'd like to ask you about. So I'm asking you and I will be
grateful for any advice.
When I want to sleep my mind occurs to be over-busy and I'm thinking or
rather brooding about my life and sometimes I'm kind of fantasising
about myself in different rather unlikely situation. This keeps me awake
and goes on my nerves. Yet I seem not able to stop it. Sometimes I'm
planning to kill me, too. Not that I'm at any risk to do so. I suppose
I'm far from that, luckily. But I find it rather disturbing and often I
can't shut those thoughts out of my mind and so lay awake for hours.
This will be one of the first things I'm going to ask my psychotherapist
about as soon as I find one. The psychotherapists seem to be greatly
over-worked here in Berlin. I've called nine different ones each at
least three times since I'd got the numbers on Wednesday only getting
their answerphones. But none had the grace to call me back so far. I've
heard you have to wait six weeks to get an appointment. If ever you get
the chance to make one, that is.
Thank you - gerriT

Thank you! I might try that. But I've got no television. Maybe I'll buy
one. I tried with music. That often helps.

i had to wait a while for my psychiatrist visit, like 2 or 3 months. they
are in high demand in my hometown. i didn't wait too long to see a couples
counselor, and she turned out to be a pretty decent. i need to schedule
some traditional therapy, but money, money.

Thanks for your reply!
I'm sorry that money is a problem. Working on getting healthy and well
schouldn't depend on money or the lack of the same.
Hopegfully my health insurance will pay for what ever treatment I need.

I've been thinking about this (sorry for the word) for
some week(s) now. One recurrent train of thought doesn't
bother me as much after I (re)started ADs.
There's several other non Rx ways of dealing with this.
I know you aren't in North America, so mentioning a NAMI
class isn't much use, but these were discussed at one
I took. I hope your therapist knows of some.

If one can get enough exercise, I find that the late-night/early
a.m. thoughts aren't as bad, because sleep is easier. (This
is from my experience some years ago, bc I tend to over sleep
in depression.

I've been thinking about this (sorry for the word) for some week(s)
now. One recurrent train of thought doesn't bother me as much after
I (re)started ADs.

Finally I found a therp. He said I should start taking anti depressants.
He sent me to another doctor who can find out which ones are good
for me. I'm not looking forward to taking meds regularly and perhaps for
a longer term. But if it helps I'll do it.

There's several other non Rx ways of dealing with this. I know you

Sorry, what's a NAMI class? I just can't figure out the akronym. I take
it it's a kind of course you can take to learn how to deal with some
problems you have?

If one can get enough exercise, I find that the late-night/early a.m.
thoughts aren't as bad, because sleep is easier. (This is from my
experience some years ago, bc I tend to over sleep in depression.

I can't sleep in and I often wake up for no reason or no reason I know
of after three or four hours sleep. I'm always tired and that's going on
my nerves, really.

If you find a solutiom, please let me know... thoughts, ideas,
memories, images etc.. are always going trhough my head, and it can be
very tough to shut off... I'm almost positive that I have OCD... I'm
not sure what works... exersize seems to help sometimes... what
aggravates my obsessive thougths seem to be caffeine and stress... I've
been trying to avoid coffee and soda lately because when I drink
caffeinated drinks my thoughts get very out of control, it seems to be
getting worse... I've heard that mediation can be helpful.... when I'm
really in my comfort zone, and/or relatively relaxed, the thoughts seem
to subside..

If ever I find one I will gladly let you know!

Yes, I think so too. When I'm really outworked it doesn't take me so
long to sleep in.

what aggravates my obsessive thougths seem to be caffeine and
stress...

Caffeine? I think I can't do without coffee. And the pretty waitress in
the nice next door cafe will greatly miss me, I'm sure. ;-)

I've been trying to avoid coffee and soda lately because when I drink
caffeinated drinks my thoughts get very out of control, it seems to
be getting worse... I've heard that mediation can be helpful....

I'm thinking about to start learning yoga. I'd like to learn how to
concentrate when thoughts are chasing eachother through my mind. I'm
trying to concentrate on something simple and nice when I can't sleep in.

when I'm really in my comfort zone, and/or relatively relaxed, the
thoughts seem to subside..
