hypnosis made me worse |
x-no-archive: yes
Trying to quit smoking right? So I get a couple of hypnosis CD's. One
for stress and the other for smoking.
Most people would just go ahead and do them and no harm done.
But oh no, not for me. Nope. Flipped out and am still out of my body
12 hours after the 2nd trance state. Can't centre, can't get myself
back into a normal associative mind.
So I'm chucking them out.
Bloody hell. :( I just wish that sometimes things would come a little
easier for me. I do try so hard. (self pity - I know)
Ah never mind. I suppose I could try acupuncture.

Grace I'm on Day 3, 21 mg patches. They really, really help me.
I'd still like to kill a bunch of people, but it could be worse.

Good on you Jean! You know, I might have to re-think my anti-patch
approach. I was a bit concerned they would make my heart palpitate and
spin me into a panic attack. Anything that helps I reckon hey?
I'd still like to kill a bunch of people, but it could be worse.
Well good luck on your quit. Let us know how you are going in a couple
of weeks or so. I really hope it sticks for you this time. :)

I don't know how much validity hypnosis has. Some would suggest it is
nothing more than imagination. Can you really be sure that the hypnosis
CD's caused the current problem, or might have it happened anyway?

No to be sure it was the C.D's. There is no doubt about it.

If you are that sensitive to the effects, maybe you could try using
BrainWave Generator www.bwgen.com to come down. Something along the lines
of the Attention Focusing presets.

I was told that I wasn't easy to hypnotize. Mostly because of my
childhood experience. Something about not allowing someone else to
have that control over me again. I'm not quite sure I believe that.
I think I'm actually *very* easy to hypnotize. But, yeah, it's a heck
of a lot like dissociation.

Gosh yes. Times 10 because even at my worst, I can come back into my
body at least before I go to sleep. Perhaps it might not be good for
you either wombn? Or at the very least, do some research if you ever
decide to try it.

I probably won't ever try it. Well... 'way back in the dark ages
when I was in college, the college doc taught me some simple
self-hypnosis techniques to help me with anxiety. And it did help a
lot. I can't remember what it was she taught me now. But she wasn't
trying to get info out of me. I figure it was more like meditation.

I don't know mate. You know I thought that being dissociative would be
to my advantage you know? That I could "easily and effortlessly" give
up smoking with hypnosis. But it has only made things a lot worse.
Looks like we both need to be more in control of the process.
I must admit it is very serendipitous to be sure. How are you going

I visited a hypnotist two saturdays ago about weight loss. After just one
session my eating pattern totally changed, gone was the obsession so eating
sensibly was easy. On the second visit he tried to get in contact with my
subconscience, but it was obvious someone didn't want him too. Anyway, he
found a way to circumnavigate my protector and so he managed to make contact.
As soon as I left his office, I just started binge eating in a way I haven't
done for some time. Sunday through to tuesday I watched myself flip out into
a personality that was a non dissociative personality. Come wednesday things
are ultra real. I can see, smell and taste like never before.
Depersonalisation and derealisation were non existent for the first time
since I was 2 years old. Wednesday was a nightmare, sure it was what I've
been working for, but it was far too much far too quickly, a total culture
shock. By friday I flipped across to extreme dissociation, switching all over
the place. I am still experiencing the consequences of that. Everything is
different, everything is real in a way I cannot handle it. I'm packing ativan
away down my throat in an attempt to manage or stabilise. When I read your
post I was struck dumb. I couldn't believe that someone else was going
through the same. I'm really sorry that you're going through this Grace,
really I am. This fucking sucks. Take care.

Oh mate I am so sorry to hear that things are this rough for you. :(
I am doing better thank goodness and I can only hope that things will
settle down for you soon as well.
I am never going to dabble with hypnosis again. I just don't think it
is a good idea for us dissociatives. I hope the flooding slows down
too. I am thinking of you and my email is always open.

Grace, I was chatting to the hypotherapist guy tonight over the phone. He
mentioned the fact that a very high percentage of people suffer an adverse
reaction immediately after their second or third session, something to do
with the way the subconscience is accessed. I don't know whether this is true
or just BS, but he didn't seem at all surprised when I mentioned it.

I don't know much about it mate to tell you the truth. I only know

for stress and the other for smoking.
I suppose *not* giving up smoking could then be listed as a
health asset!
I'm not too sure about hypnosis cd's. They are, at best, slightly
dangerous? Take care.

Trying to quit smoking right? So I get a couple of hypnosis CD's. One
for stress and the other for smoking.

I am sure you are right Glenn. I should have headed that inner warning
before I even bought them. I am a little better today although still
pretty upset.
I won't try it again that's for sure.
Best,

This kind of makes sense though, doesn't it? We all have our own
personalities and history, doesn't make you any worse than the next
person. The point is finding what works for you. You tried something,
it didn't work, now you have more information, more data points. That's
a good thing, really.

I don't know. I suppose I have learnt something from it. Well yes I
have learnt something but it's a lesson I think I could have done
without if you know what I mean. Although reading your words did
comfort me.
I hope today is a bit better.
Thanks Janithor.

They always say that adversity builds character. Me, I'd rather not
have this much character. :-)

Best,
I'm just saying it from my own experience. It really sucked that it
took me so long to develop, and I bashed my head against many rocks.
But eventually I started to learn which rocks hurt, and so slowly I
started to find a better path, if that makes any sense. Not the ideal
way to grow, but it did work eventually. That's why I say information
is power. If anything, you learn from experience what to avoid, and
that saves you headache and trouble the next time around.

Very true indeed. I can see where you are coming from.
