Object: I cooked my first pot roast yesterday
It came out great, even the gravy. But the problem is, having
something cook on the stovetop for 3 hours is like babysitting. I
don't know how my mother did all this stuff.

Oh Brian, three hours is nothing. I cooked one on the weekend and that sucker
was simmering for 8 hours. It was melt in your mouth delicious at the end, too.

What kind of thing did you do the cooking in?

I just used an 8 qt Revere ware pot with lid I've had around. With a
cup on top to weigh down the lid. I was warned off too much water (I
used a cup of coffee, boullion packet, couple onions, some garlic. My
mother told me too.) So I spent a lot of time adding ounces of water,
to keep it from burning off entirely. There has to be a better way.

Ok, I was asking Luna, but it sounds like a slowcooker/crockpot might
become your friend (unless that's what a Revere pot is, I'm culurally
challegend here)

Revere ware is a brand name of steel pots and pans with copper
bottoms. Named after Paul Revere, a tin knocker who rode through
Massachusetts warning "T-Fal is coming, T-Fal is coming!"
(update:Mom says I cooked it too high(medium) because she's surprised I
had to add bits of water). And I only have a few slices left. Next
Week: Liver and onions!

Liver and bacon's good too.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Yeah, it was 3 1/2 lbs, and it could have used about 1/2 hour more.
But 8 hours would have been best. yummy.

my replies, mysteriously, aren't under the persons I was trying to
respond to. Mix them up, for fun!

If you go out and back in they should mysteriously realign.
Clicking different view formats i.e. "Sender", "Date" etc. and
then back to "Thread" should also work.

Doesn't seem to work. Strange. I have the option of switching to my
outlook newsreader. It's really drab, though. Google shows the first
few sentences, and it's easier to follow threads. But this reply not
lining up thing is a first.

One thing that might work a little better would be a crock pot. I got
one for Christmas one year. Three hours is awhile to be cooking, unless
it's on a weekend.
