Object: i feel like poop.
:(
i tried to call in sick on thursday but they couldn't find anybody to
cover for me, and really i wasn't that sick, so i agreed to go in
anyway. i didn't even bother trying to call in sick yesterday.
what's the point in having sick days if you can't even use them?
i am such a doormat.
but today i feel just absolutely terrible. achey, weak, cold,
headache, ears ache, just yuck.
<whiiiiine>
and i have a dog who is bouncing off the walls because i had to lock
her up all last night because she wouldn't leave the post-bloat akita
dog alone.

It's really hard to break this. One time, I'd called in sick, but no
one backed up the computer, so I went in (I was <3 miles away, and
they were >10 miles away). The tape drive failed and so I had to back
it up on disk packs (this was a "few" years ago), changing disk packs
every 20 minutes. It took me all night because I kept falling asleep.
I had 102 degree fever.
The next time I got sick, I flat out refused to come in. They *had*
to be able to manage without me. I mean, jeez, what if I stepped off
a curb and got hit by a bus? In my case, there probably wouldn't be
any major fallout, but in your case, a pet could die. So if you were
suddenly hospitalized they WOULD FIND SOMEONE THAT NIGHT.
Or one of them would get off their duff and come in.

but today i feel just absolutely terrible. achey, weak, cold,

IIf you have a fever, DON'T GO IN. If you have to prove it, then go
to urgent care and have them take your temperature!

the thing is, i'm not *that* sick, you know? i'm not puking. i don't
have a fever (my temp was 97.8 last time i took it?). i just feel
crappy, you know? if i were really really sick i'd just say well i'm
sorry i can't come in. period. especially since i have to drive so
far. but because i really am not that sick i agreed to come in.
i guess i shouldn't do that. i just feel walked on then. blah.

like i said, i'm not really *that* sick. but if i worked during the
day, i could just call off and that would be that. other people have
used up all their sick days. i can't even use the ones i have!!
if i don't feel better by monday i am going to call in sick and say NO
i CAN'T come in. if the doctor on call has to stay there all night,
well, that's what they're paid for.

You dont have to be physically sick to call in sick.

I've never bought into the idea that if you call in sick then you are
responsible for finding your own replacement or that you can only call in
sick if they find someone to replace you. That is hogwash. You don't run
that place, it's not your job to make sure that every position is filled.
That is what they have managers and supervisors for.

what's the point in having sick days if you can't even use them?

Exactly.

What is a "post-bloat akita dog"? Are you trying to say that Eleusis wasn't
leaving poor Siren the Gourmet Poodle alone? Thanks for keeping Siren safe.

no, she's fine with siren. the akita was a hospitalized dog. bloat is
when a dog's stomach twists. she had surgery to untwist her stomach,
which is pretty major surgery and requires a nice two foot long
incision in the belly (ow).
i take both my dogs to work with me. siren stayed loose in the
treatment room most of the night because she doesn't bother the sick
animals. luce just wants to play with everybody so she had to go live
in jail.
