i feel so alienated |
from the entire world.
i just don't think the way everybody around me does. i don't feel the
way everybody around me does. i vehemently disagree with things that
everybody around me agrees with.
i just don't have the backbone that i really need.
i wish i were a different person.

being different is NOT equal to defective
in fact, those who are all the same are defective, have no sense of self,

No, don't wish that. Everybody has a purpose. For instance, everybody
here is unique, and when they line up to support you/me, there is a
strength in each individual response that only that person can
bring...if that makes any sense. We could have used your animal
expertise around here this past month. My sister bought a Golder
Retriever that turned out to be vicious. They tried many ways to
incorporate the dog into the family. but she nearly bit my sisters
upper female anatomy off this week. So the vet (that makes
housecalls!) finally took the 'puppy' ( 6 month old)and gave it to her
assistant, who feels she can deal with the dog. In my own case, I have
a 16 year old cat who was diagnosed with a cancer this week. She has a
bad open lesion on her underside. I've begun taking her up to my bed,
keeping her warm, hugging her gently (She was always a biter and
scratcher....now she gives me a little nip, but I just whisper 'don't
bite' and she allows me to continue to pet her.) Poor Dolly. But I
don't want to have her put asleep (she doesn't seem to be in pain.)
Anyway, I said all that in this response to you, because you are a
known animal lover. If you became a different person, I wouldn't be
sure that sharing those stories would matter as much.( which is not to
say there aren't other animal lovers here, but you are the top on that
list as far as I can tell.) You have been consistent since 1999 when I
first began to know a bit about who you are and what you do. You're
very special. Being special comes with a lot of pain. Feel better
soon, elegy.

Thanks. Yeah, the guy I live with and his late partner had like 13
cats. We're down to 3 now, 2 original, including Dolly. She's OK
though, she still nips me as always, which is a sign to me of her
health./ I'm not sure I said I was sorry about your mother the other
day when we were talking to Nick. I bought a house across the street
from my mother about 5 months ago. She watches Bob when I have to go
out ( He's 86 and had a stroke this year) and brings us food. We were
practically being extorted 60 miles up the road, by Bob's 'friends' to
get help for me taking care of him. Now I have to beg my mother to
take a few bucks from me every now and then for the food she brings.

Brian
i'm so sorry about your cat, brian. cancer is a huge fear of mine. the
one vet i work for has a special interest in oncology, so a number of
local vets refer their clients to us for chemo. it's hard, because we
see these animals so often, and we can usually buy them time- even a
year or more- but it's never a happy ending.
sigh.

Thanks elegy. She's sleeping at my feet, follows me room to room at
night now, like she's scared to be alone. And that's OK. She licks at
the lesion (it's mammary, possibly effecting lungs too) and I hope it
doesn't hurt. I've been offered the chemo, but I just don't want her
to go through that, not that I've ever seen an animal have chemo, but
just the idea of her getting worse so she can have an extra year, I
can't do it. I don't want them to put one of those hoods on so she
can't lick herself...The vet said she could make her more comfortable,
and I am gonna call her back and find out what that means. I was not
in a good decision making mode when she called with the news this
week.// She looks comfortable, she meows me, she's always trying to
tell me something...like "I want a slice of American cheese, and I want
you to hover over me as I eat it so the other cats won't bug me". I
have a lot of time for Dolly now.

Great post. You've demonstrated your compassion and kindness ever
since I've been reading ASD. And maybe today you spent too much time
thinking about someone who told you all pit bulls should be put down
and their owners fined. Maybe you mentioned something about
irresponsible owners and media sensationalism with terms like "mauled"
and "snapped". The problem is, you were probably talking to an
idiot...take my Dad.
My Mom used to raise Sheep Dogs. We went through Pooh I, Pooh II,
Panda I, Panda II, and Chaucer through my childhood, and Chaucer
"attacked".
Chaucer was about 90 pounds and very protective of my Mom. My Dad
would tease him by going through this routine where Mom was laying
down on the couch and Dad would come in and make sudden movements
toward her menacingly repeating "I'm gonna get mommy, I'm gonna get
mommy..." Chaucer would lie on my Mom and growl and growl, even bark
occasionally like "get the ***** away and I'm not kidding." One day,
Dad got close and Chaucer snapped, a quick bite that sent Dad the
emergency room to get over 100 stitches to the left side of his face.
Now, Chaucer survived that episode...but not without Dad's comments on
making sure we watch him around children and Sue (Mom) really needs to
get him into training and all that pathetic crap.
Then Mom and Dad were playing chess one night...Dad says Chaucer came
from the other side of the room and attacked him as he sat in his
chair. Same deal, over 100 stitches to the face (this story sounds
far fetched but I swear to God it happened).
So that was it...Chaucer was put down and I can't believe Mom didn't
divorce Dad...I almost lost a little respect for her over that. I
asked her if Chaucer really attacked like that, she just rolled her
eyes, immediately tear'd up and said "What do you think?"
Gee, that's an uplifting story...anyway, how's Figment?
