If it wasn't for bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck at all.
Or something like that.

I'm reading a great book about BC, %,
and have been thinking about you the
whole time. It's about a guy in the
logging industry who goes kinda crazy
when he sees what happens to the land
after, like, 25 years. Have you ever
seen a golden spruce?

These have golden needles. I imagine
they might look sorta like a dead tree.
But I guess it's almost like an albino

it would be hard to tell ,

they make pine trees look gold ,
but i have seen gold pine trees before ,
you gotta remember this whole province is pine trees ,
pine trees and aspen is all that grow this far north ,

Well, if the logging industry has its
way (or the pine beetles), you, or yer
kids, may not be seein' any someday. At
least any of the really old ones. But, I
still use up a lotta paper, so I'm part

every spring i find new patches ,
off in the distance on the mountain sides ,
big patches that weren't there in the autumn before ,
and i feel so torn because i use the products ,
and without the industry there would be no town here ,
in fact there would likely be no towns in BC at all ,
the big mill of the two that are here has a sign board ,

of course the planted figure is always bigger ,
its not much consolation but if i allow myself ,
to just be stupid , i can make believe that it helps

Well, I allow myself to be that stupid
enough to believe it's better than not
planting any. One of my customers is a
paper manufacturer and their replanting
numbers are accurate (in Maine and
Wisconsin). But it still ain't old
growth forests. I guess forest
plantations are better than none at all
-- and replanting does minimize the
topsoil erosion.

One school shooting was thwarted in the

desk. So, I have considered it. The
thing is, though, that line of thinking

Oh, and the teacher that stopped the

Ya know, I was thinking about that while
reading the book. The main reason we
didn't run outta trees is because we
started using oil. Maybe ... but it
gives me a kinda hope that oil
dependency will change (in time), just
the way wood as fuel changed.

Pretty much all of the Welsh hillside is sustainable forrestry, it's
done on purpose so that rotting soil is fed on, and the tree routes
create quite a binding, which minimises the chance of land-slides,
supposedly.
Before actively reading about it, I always thought they just wanted to
make money with wood...

They do want to make money with wood.
That's why they figured out that they
have to grow some to have a sustainable
source of $$$. I once read that the
biggest forests in the US are owned by
the lumber, paper, and pulp industries.
If it weren't for the business use,
there might not be any left at all.
Sigh. People.
But, if they really cared about the
earth, they'd get outta forestry
products and make stuff outta hemp. imo.
