i have a family |
so far, it's only millie and me, but soon there will be many more of us:
millipedes, birds, maybe even dogs!

Millipedes have always scared me---they make me cringe and I scream and jump
far away from where I see them...
Can you handle them? Do they bite?
Hey if it makes you happy to have Millie then go for it---get you some more
exotics---it sounds like you are a good "parent" to have....

don't confuse millipedes with centipedes. most millipedes are harmless,
slow-moving herbivores. centipedes are usually venomous predators.

yes, but they don't like it. they get scared.
Do they bite?
no. they don't sting either. if they get very scared, they can excrete
an irritating substance, though. unless you happen to be allergic to it,
that substance is harmless to get on your skin. you should not get it
into eyes or mouth though, so handwashing is necessary after handling
millipedes.

'Venomous predator' sounds a lot more butch than 'harmless herbivore',
until you remember what harm a rhinoceros can do to a truck.
