Object: I just wittnessed a hit adn run car crash
what a way to start a day.... after dropping my dad off from the
doctors office to get a blood test, i go out for a little drive to
relax, maybe hang out at Gurnee Mills or whatever, but on my way there,
while about to make a left turn, some idiot comes speeding from behind
and hits a car almost in the middle of the intersection. the that did
the hitting looked like he was completed stoned, mid or late 30s. he
stops for a second. the victim of the accident was ok, they both looked
at each other and their cars, without getting out, but then the guy
that crashed his car took off. I tried to get his license plate but
didn't it was all a big blurr, it happened 20 feet in front of me. i
pulled over to the curb after completing the turn. other people were
pulling over too, and on their cell phones, i dialed 911 on mine, but i
couldnt get a signal. FFS!.... i couldn't believe what i just saw,
even though it probably happens several times a minute every day here
in the U.S. i was like holy *****. the lady was ok, a little shaked up
naturally, but ok. everyone else was making sure she was okay too.
minutes later the first cop arrived, he was out of his district /
jurisdiction or whatever, so he asked if we could all stay and be
witnesses and to move accross the street to the walgreens parkinglot
where it would be safer instead on the side of the road. of course we
all did. apparently even though i was the closest car to the accident,
the guys behind me were paying much better attention and got some of
the license plate. it so happened that after this lady was hit, the
driver hit another car, a guy, down the road, and he was okay too.
soon after, in the walgreens parking lot, the cop who would handle it
arrived, an older female cop. she asked who was who and if anyone else
had been hit....got all our names numbers addy's, and sent us on our
way.....
arghhh....... although this is an everyday event.... i havent seen an
accident happen in front of my face like that...... i dont exactly
LIKE driving, but if i didn't i wouldn't be going very far because im
so far away from the city and major public transportation. well, there
ARE trains and buses around here, but nothing like in the city where
you can hop on something anytime and go anywhere, so a car is basicly
essential here..... it could have been me. glad it wasnt but im not
happy that poor woman had to go through that because some stoned idiot
probably without insurance was driving around, not being careful, and
then commited a crime by leaving the scene. i hope he's in jail right
now, most likely is.
um anyway, im fine. not exactly relaxed and happy, but fine. and you
know what, im not even wanting any anti-anxiety stuff right now. i
think i want to catch up on sleep since i was up so early from driving
my dad to the doctors...
when i wake up this afternoon, it'll be like a new day starting again.
be careful, all you ASDers out there, who are or will be driving, or on
your bikes or walking where there is traffic. ***** can happen where
and when you least expect it.

what a way to start a day....

unfortunately you are right...that happens every few seconds here in the
usa. hit and runs. i worked for state farm insurance for 20 years and it
was extremely common.
last week my best friend happened upon an accident that had just occurred
moments before, and there was a woman lying face down in the ditch who had
been thrown from her car. my best friend sat with the lady's kids (who were
pretty badly cut up) while other ppl surrounded the lady and they all waited
on EMS to arrive. she never did find out if the lady died or not, but the
kids sure were upset.
you just never know...

yeah that sounded like a horrible accident. i hope that lady who was
hurt eventually recovered. i think people need to have better drivers
training before getting a lisence. it is SO easy to get one, without
being a good driver. you just have to pass a few basics. at least
that's how it is in Illinois. my dad says, in england, its alot
tougher to get a lisence and almost everyone is a better driver,
meaning the general population are better drivers overall than the
average American. not that there aren't EXELLENT American drivers,
but, there are also so many bad ones.

I heard his 'motvational presentation'
this week and, well, it's good to be
alive. If he believes that, so can I.

Offensive lineman...and athlete is impressive.
He would have been better off if his true calling was to be a couch
potato it seems.

For sure, he has times when he'd agree
with that. imo. But maybe his true
calling is to explore the space where an
indomitable spirit meets the limitations
of flesh. Pat Croce was on the agenda
right before Jim and, I'm tellin' ya,
the combination of the 2 was, um,
hallucinogenic for me. But I'm kinda odd
that way. Spoken word alters my
chemistry, I think.

Sometimes you're just sitting at home jonesing for a lecture and wishing
you could score a hit.
