Object: I refuse to be politically correct
The politically correct greeting is "Happy Holidays", which has come
to replace "Merry Christmas" in this country. This is because the Jews
don't like "Merry Christmas", which excludes them.
I have never said "Happy Holidays", and I never will.

I say Happy Holidays because it's shorter then saying Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year.

i say "happy holidays" when i don't know if the other person is christian.
if i do, and i know it means something to them, i say, "merry christmas."
not being christian, i prefer that people say "happy holidays" to me. if
someone who doesn't know me says "merry christmas," i see it as a minor faux
pas but it happens all the time so i just say "you too." if someone knows
i'm jewish and still says "merry christmas" to me, i get offended. but that
practically never happens. most people are pretty cool that way.

political correctness is just the practice of being considerate, accepting
and respectful toward others in a multi-faith, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural
society.
"politically correct" can be reframed as "the language of equality", but
people get fed up with the seemingly mincing rules and regs of observance. i
say it comes down to something very simple. to speak the language of
equality, you have to visualize equality and you have to believe it. then
you'll take to the language like a duck to water.

DSM-IV-TV.
I can't really explain it myself. Prolly just don't

I can't do that, because it's a lie - something someone else expects.

Do you walk around naked because other people "expect" you to wear
clothes? Do you ***** on fire hydrants because people "expect" you not
to? Do you yap loudly in movie theaters because others "expect" you to
be quiet? Is wearing clothes and not pissing in public or talking
during movies "lying" because it's a violation of your personal
integrity?
Of course, the idea is a real classic in the self-destructive ASD
subculture that celebrates isolation and alienation: doing anything
because it's expected or customary or caters to an "old fashioned,
conservative" (Hi, Alvin!) social convention is somehow being untrue to
your Self, a failure to "put yourself first" that makes you one of
those most miserable and contemptible of all creatures, a "People
Pleaser".
But give me a fucking break. Is your sense of Self so shallow that
"You" can't be "You" if you put on a tie?
It was really, really hard and weird for me to put on a tie when I
applied for my first job. I hadn't worn one since the last time I went
to Sunday School like 15 years earlier. My roommates looked on me as
some sort of traitor to what we now think of as PC values, especially
since I was not only wearing a tie, I was applying for a job with an
evil utility company (never mind that we of course used electricity
ourselves and were one of their customers). But I did it 'cos it was
expected, and refusal to do so would have amounted to a conspicuous act
of defiance that was unlikely to make my prospective co-workers feel
good about maybe working with me.
I got the job. After a while, I experimented with not wearing a tie,
because my main problem with wearing a fucking tie is not that it's a
"lie" but that it's uncomfortable (what idiot thought this up, anyway,
this idea that "proper dress" has to include tying a rope around your
neck? I breathe through that thing!) It was fun watching people say
hello to me in the elevator, their eyes quickly and uncontrollably
darting down to my tie-less chest; I got some idea of what it must be
like to be a woman with big boobs! But nobody ever said anything to me
about it, and so I and this one other guy were Those Two Guys Who Don't
Wear Ties. But it would have been OK even if I had to wear it, and in
fact one (exactly one) later job *did* require me to wear a tie. Big
fucking deal! It wasn't like I was a Jew (Hi, Miserable Adolf!)
straightening my hair and bobbing my nose and changing my name in order
to "pass". It wasn't like I was "selling out" any real values and
betraying my conscience. I was just me wearing a tie.
Last time I wore a tie was late 2001. I really don't like ties, I'm not
sure where the hell the few I have even are. But if I found myself in a
social situation where wearing a tie was expected, I would wear a tie,
because wearing the fucking tie would be much less of a big deal than
making some sort of misguided "statement" ("Look at me! I'm not a
People Pleaser!") by refusal to do so.

I love asd.

straightening my hair and bobbing my nose and changing my name in order

Mark

I always assumed I would be in a job that required a tie. Last time I
wore a tie, I was out selling. Spent some good money (for me) at
Nordstroms, got some decent clothes. I approached one building, they
were outside in their garage. Guy took one look at me and said out
loud, "Oh a salesman! We looooove salesmen around here" real
sarcastically. Now I just wear jeans and polo shirt everywhere I go, I
don't have to think when I dress, much easier that way. Although I
think California is a bit different than the East Coast, that's my
impression. The level of dress in the business world that I see when
I'm selling in California is pretty astounding, some of the
receptionists look like they should be waitresses at a strip club.

What do waitresses in strip clubs look like. I've never seen one on
duty.

DSM-IV-TV.

I can't really explain it myself. Prolly just don't
want to be in life any more. I've got to put on the act,
all the rest of it.

so what would happen if you didn't put on the act?

DSM-IV-TV.

Tell me, why do you place so much faith in that particular "diagnosis"
when the book it comes from is written by doctors who you have stated
are all quacks? This I do not understand and it seems to me you just
like the idea of being able to point to a reference in a book or on-
line and say, "there, that's me" when anyone asks what your problem
is. You're trying to justify your odd behaviour instead of looking for
an answer to it. Stop fannying around and get to a doctor.

I can't really explain it myself. Prolly just don't

Go to a doctor.

It's a hard act to follow, however you {i} have to do it.

no, a hard act to follow would be burns and allen doing standup. i wouldn't
even try to follow that. being friendly is easy as falling off a log. it's
much harder to be a misanthropic ***** like millipede man, and that's
mostly why he's so tired and sleepy all the time. he's wasting his whole
life and all his energy on it. he loads up on psychic toxins like a junkie
cranks his fix, and then he wonders why he feels so bad.

For me, putting on the real life act is difficult.
however, I Don't know MM personally, however suspect
not doing OK, neither am I.

Go to a doctor.

It scares the shite out of me. I have to concentrate on being
someone I'm not.

expects.

Telling people you have a diagnosis which you patently *DO NOT* have
is also a lie. Go to a doctor.

First off, there's no such thing as a DSM-IV-TV. Secondly, he hasn't
actually read the *DSM-IV-TR*. He's looked up short disgnositic criteria
off the web from it which totals about 1% of the book.

Preferred Provider Option. It's where you can go to whatever doctor you
want and get at least some insurance coverage, but you get the most
coverage and the least paperwork if you use doctors on their
"in-network" list of "preferred providers".

i like the PDP, or "preferred diagnosis program." you browse the online DSM
and assemble your disorders of choice, and then the program gives you a
referral to a psychiatrist who, for a one-time $100 fee, will confirm your
dx for insurance coverage purposes.
doctors like it because it saves them enormous amounts of time, and patients
like it for the quick turnaround and diagnostic precision it gives them.
after all, who's better placed to know what's wrong with their heads than
they themselves?
