I refuse to be politically correct |
The politically correct greeting is "Happy Holidays", which has come
to replace "Merry Christmas" in this country. This is because the Jews
don't like "Merry Christmas", which excludes them.
I have never said "Happy Holidays", and I never will.

The politically correct greeting is "Happy Holidays", which has
come to replace "Merry Christmas" in this country. This is
because the Jews don't like "Merry Christmas", which excludes
them.
I have never said "Happy Holidays", and I never will.

The whole "Christ-Killers are out to destroy Christmas by banning its
mention" is ***** anyway. Not only is "holidays" intended to allow
for non-Christian festivities, but it's primarily just shorthand for
"Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year" even in purely Christian terms.
Someone who gets bent out of shape being wished "Merry Christmas" is a
Scroogy poop, but someone who gets bent out of shape by people choosing
to say "Happy Holidays" instead is just being bigoted and/or dumb.

When I was working we were expected to answer the phone with, "Seasons

didn't want a "Christ" in their Christmas. ;-)

I'm an atheist but Cal doesn't think so. Anyway.
The phrase "Season's Greetings" has been around as long as I can
remember, hearing it it would never occur to be that I was being
indoctrinated into "PC" ideology.
Anyway: I'm not a Christian, and wishing me a "Merry Christmas" DOES,
let's face it, kind of make the unwarranted assumption that I am, and
while the greeting doesn't bother me at all -- hell, I use it myself --
raising this point doesn't seem absurdly picky and hyPCersensitive to me.

No, me neither. I liked that we used the alternate greeting. Had I been on
the other side of that PC issue, like you I may not have made a big deal
about it, but I certainly would have appreciated the more generic term that

"Season's Greetings", of course, is profoundly offensive to residents of
planets in other universes that don't have seasons. The true "Christmas

I work at a company whose offices are on the second floor of a 2-storey
building. The ground floor is occupied by a mosque.
The owners of the company, and some of the employees, are Jewish. Other
employees are Christian (Protestant & Catholic), Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim,
atheist, agnostic, and unclassified.
On the last day of Hannukuh, one of the Jewish employees announced that she was
going to light a menorah.
One of the Christians (an Irish Catholic) asked about the meaning of the
menorah, and was enlightened (pun intended). About 10 of us gathered around to
share in the little ceremony. Only 2 candles were lit by Jews. The other 6
candles were lit by the Syrian Christian, the Kuwaiti Christian, the Irish
Catholic, the unbaptized Protestant (me), the Greek Orthodox, and the Brazilian
Catholic.
The menorah was placed in the window for a quarter of an hour. No comments were
received from the mosque.
There's a big discussion in Quebec right now about "reasonable accommodation". I
think we've already worked it out for ourselves -- mutual respect, willingness
to explain and share, and curiosity and desire to learn from one another.

I love this story Tara. To be honest I'm not surprised there wasn't a word
from the Mosque. There is a large Muslim community in the GTA and several
mosques and my personal experiences with my Muslims neighbours has always
been one of tolerance, understanding, kindness, and compassion. I don't
know if my relationships with them is typical or if I have been fortunate,
but I can say that they have been nothing other than wonderful.

The whole "Christ-Killers are out to destroy Christmas by banning its
mention" is ***** anyway. Not only is "holidays" intended to allow
for non-Christian festivities, but it's primarily just shorthand for
"Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year" even in purely Christian
terms. Someone who gets bent out of shape being wished "Merry
Christmas" is a Scroogy poop, but someone who gets bent out of shape
by people choosing to say "Happy Holidays" instead is just being
bigoted and/or dumb.

When I was working we were expected to answer the phone with, "Seasons
Greetings" but that was to accommodate all faiths including atheists
who didn't want a "Christ" in their Christmas. ;-)
saying hello would've done the same thing even better

"Happy Holidays" is not something in common usage where I am. I
don't think I've even heard of the term.
"Seasons Greetings" is likely more appropriate than anything.
Some folk are bothered by a "Merry Xmas" as would have wanted
the full "Christmas" in there.
Some folk don't even have their Christmas or holidays on their
day. Ukrainians where I am would not even be in the holiday period
as it's Jan, 07 (I know a family that hate that). They could even be
offended by "Happy holidays" as that's after the holiday break
for most folk, so may have to be working at that time and would
not be able to get family together on that day.

The politically correct greeting is "Happy Holidays", which has come
to replace "Merry Christmas" in this country. This is because the Jews
don't like "Merry Christmas", which excludes them.
I have never said "Happy Holidays", and I never will.

Good for you! That's the spirit. Celebrate the birth of the Jewish Christ
with anti-Semitism. Way to go man. Merry fucked up Christmas.

I say Happy Holidays because it's shorter then saying Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year.

You never have them, either, do you? No wonder you aren't inclined to
wish them for others, you bitter little bigot.

You must get a lot of "Yo, gobshite" where you are. Wherever you are.
And here we all are, at the top of the year, wishing the best to our
fellows. Jovial Yule, fellows!
