I work at a company whose offices are on the second floor of a 2-storey
building. The ground floor is occupied by a mosque.

The owners of the company, and some of the employees, are Jewish. Other
employees are Christian (Protestant & Catholic), Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim,
atheist, agnostic, and unclassified.

On the last day of Hannukuh, one of the Jewish employees announced that
she was
going to light a menorah.

One of the Christians (an Irish Catholic) asked about the meaning of the
menorah, and was enlightened (pun intended). About 10 of us gathered
around to
share in the little ceremony. Only 2 candles were lit by Jews. The other 6
candles were lit by the Syrian Christian, the Kuwaiti Christian, the Irish
Catholic, the unbaptized Protestant (me), the Greek Orthodox, and the
Brazilian
Catholic.

The menorah was placed in the window for a quarter of an hour. No comments
were
received from the mosque.

There's a big discussion in Quebec right now about "reasonable
accommodation". I
think we've already worked it out for ourselves -- mutual respect,
willingness
to explain and share, and curiosity and desire to learn from one another.
