Object: I still don't have a doctor
I heard what's easily a 4th party rumor last night about my old
doctor. He and a coworker were talking about leaving to set up a
new practice, and when the hospital corporation they were
working under caught wind of it, they were immediately let go.
So he's probably working with his partner now to set up a new
office. It's all just a rumor, though, so maybe I ought to find
someone in the meantime. Unfortunately, the only doctor
accepting new patients in the old practice is brand new, this is
her first job post-residency. She's probably not the best pick
for someone with a very complex medical history. The docs I've
seen in the past who I like aren't taking new patients. I don't
want the luck of the draw, but I might have to. Bleh.

hey Lisa, I hope you can find an experienced doctor who is able to not
get overwhelmed with the complexities you're dealing with, so that
(s)he can help you. my dad's favorite doctor recently left to
practice somewhere on the east coast in new england, so he had to
start over, but at least it was with a doctor who had previously been
treating him. actually where he goes, there are 3 doctors that have
seen him over the last few years. they've all seen me also since it's
a family practice. best of luck you doctor hunting, Lisa.

Hey Lisa, is it possible that given your complicated medical history
there might be an exception to the doctors decision to not take new
patients, and that you could get an appointment?
Maybe you could let them know that you may not be a long term patient
there, that you just want someone experienced to manage your care until
your old doctor sets up his new practice, then you intend to go there?
That might encourage a little flexibility by the doctors, or the
practice manager.

I could try it, but my guess is that it wouldn't work.
Especially knowing that I didn't plan to stay, I'm not sure it
would be worth their effort to work out everything that's
going on. I've got 3 charts from my old doc because they had
to split it when it got too big to be wieldly.

I think I'll try the new one, since my records are there
already. I'm nervous about it, but also don't want to forge a

I've got a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disorder (currently
in remission), kidney damage, a collagen disorder, treatment-
resistant depression, and wet macular degeneration that's
gradually making me blind. I also keep getting blood sugar
spikes, but nobody's sure what that's about, since I don't
have any other markers for diabetes. It's complex enough that
I'd like someone with lots of experience, and my old doc I'd
already gotten educated in this stuff (he gave me his email
address to send good links.) I hate the thought of starting
over again, but looks like I'll have to, at least temporarily.
