Object: If you could travel anywhere regardless of expense, where would you go?
I think I would go to the Cook Islands off the coast of New
Zealand....hubby spent 6 months there and says it is like paradise.
Paradise, seems like a total mirage.

I think I'd wanna go somewhere I wouldn't die of heatstroke.. ..like
Iceland, or anywhere/everywhere in the UK, Japan, Australia.. ..not too
excited about Europe in general, but Spain and Greece might be exciting for
ancient architecture..
if I could though, I'd much rather experience the weightlessness of space
flight and go for a walk on the moon and see the earth lit up above me..
...I know I have the stomach and spacial comprehension for it..

I've been to a number of places in Australia, since I live here,
not a lot, but driving the Great Ocean Road, living on
country properties in NSW, swimming with dolphins in
Western Australia was fairly good.
Africa was fairly good, camping by the zambezi river with all sorts of
wild critters running about.

if I could though, I'd much rather experience the weightlessness of space
flight and go for a walk on the moon and see the earth lit up above me..

Urm I'm not sure that would work for me.
Antartica is somewhere I've been invited to go to,
might do it.
Other than that, seen some parts of Canada and Eastern,
Western USA (drove about 20,000km), flew over Grand
Canyon was good. Getting in a Mercury Sable hired in
the centre of NY was my first experience of driving on
t'other side of the road than we do here.
UK a number of times. France
Japan seems like an interesting place to visit,
I should give that a go.

Yeah, Castaway island I've been too, there are places here
that are very similar. I should drive my 4x4 up North to Fraser
Island at some stage too. Driving on Stockton Beach (huge
beach full of sand dunes (and that is a _huge_ beach), a couple
of years back.
Just have to get the motivation to do it.

not an insland as commercialized as Aruba... I'd love to go to Europe,

I get near free air fares (no not frequent fly points - something
I have because my father worked for a major airline here), but
don't use them, nor go on trips in my 4x4. I've got the money

If you like fatty foods, humidity, tropical sores, mosquitos, rot,
smell, swimming in sewerage, antiquated telephone system, no
broadband, no tv, no employment, institutionalized male chauvanism,
violence and boredom... then that's the place for you!!!
Of course its fine for a holiday. I've been to many places but always
end up back here. It'll just have to do.

Well, come here to New Zealand first and then go from there. I have
heard often that the South Pacific is best viewed from a reasonably
sized mainland. Rarotonga still has some wild and clean islands but
its been pretty well picked over.
It all depends what you want. What you really, really want.

Do you live in New Zealand? And yes, Rarotonga is exactly where he

was there back in 1988, so maybe it's changed a lot since then.

Yes I live in NZ. Rarotonga is one of the more common holiday places
for us since Fiji got so expensive.
The point I was making is that pristine and beautiful places are
usually hard to get to and devoid of even the most basic of
facilities. It is fine for a holiday but different if you want to live
there. My brother lived in Papua New Guinea for over a year and it
nearly drove him nuts. Despite the fact that he lived on a beautiful
beach in a big house.

Where I'd want to visit and where I'd want to live are (usually) two
different things. I'd most like to visit (what looks like to be) the
beautiful hotel in (what looks like to be) the beautiful island of St.
Lucia. But I know from my visit to Jamaica that Caribbean islands
aren't quite what they look like from the outside, and I wouldn't want
to live there. But a week or two there...that's different.
The only overlap I really have is that I've visited Puerto Vallarta
several times and can imagine myself happy living there. The only
thing that is offputting (and it grows more so as I age) is that the
medical care isn't going to come close to measuring up to that I can
receive in Seattle. So it's something to think about.

Yes. Apparently Kingston in Jamiaca has the highest murder rate in the
world. It can be hard to come out of 'priviledged' societies and
understand the mindset of those who have had to struggle to survive.
Corrupt police and governments, little or no consumer protection,
personal security, language and living in another culture are all
things that at first can seem minor but can grow to become very
upsetting and drive people back home.
I have lived in more countries than most people I know and in every
instance these sorts of things bothered me to the point that I had to
return home. Where I live is not perfect and has many things that
frustrate and upset me but, as a depressive, I have found it is the
healthiest place for me to reside permanently.

If I was free of the limitations life has imposed on me and cost was
not an issue, I'd want to go to the Carribbean Island of St. Lucia.
Once, several years back, I saw the hotel of my dreams at the place of
my dreams in a travel magazine. Talk about paradise...it certainly
fits my view of paradise, or at least the pictures do: http://www.ansechastanet.com/.
Looks unbelievable...but it's way pricy. Someday, somehow, I want to
go there.
In the practical world, we're gearing up for a week of visiting
relatives in California...that will be our vacation this summer. And
that's assuming we can pull that off; we don't know for absolute
certain we can go. Locationwise, it falls a little short of St. Lucia,
but it will be nice to see my family...it's been a while.
