Man....my father did that in the old days. Doesn't seem to be an
available thing in this area anymore.
The old man could skate, was on the high school hockey team. I got a
picture of him on skates in the backyard, with his arms behind his
back, smoking a pipe. He was younger than I am when that was taken.
The hemlocks were babies. Black and white memories.
It wasn't all bad.
But we had that a few years...ice everywhere. I still feel like my
ankles are going to crack when I put on skates. People like me in
Canada....non, or semi, skaters. Oh to be outcast and the last one
picked AGAIN for a game of...whatever they do on the ice.
God save me from that.
Baseball ....I lasted about a week.

This place would make a big one, not THAT big...but...the skating.
My bro-in-law would like it. Gets above freezing in the days down
here. That kinda sucks. It was colder when I was a kid.

On Long Island where I grew up, there was a pond near my house that
used to freeze every winter, and we would skate there. I was never a
great skater.
I remember one year my mom bought this thing you spread in the yard
and fill with water to make a rink. It must not have worked, as I have
no memory of skating on it.
We had ponds on a golf course nearby that froze as well.
I do NOT miss the cold at all.

I grew up on Long Island, too, in Seaford. We used to go to Takapusha
Park to ice skate. I loved it. Now I'd probably break a leg.

I've got everything here. Looking at a 500KM drive
to ski fields, beach around 500 meters away.
The country property I drive to 280km away has snow,
but not often, it's plausible you could ski there, however
would have to walk back up.
There are ice rings here. I've not checked lately,
last time I went was one around 22KM from me.

It depends on the season, however they need you to fit snow
chains. I drove my 4x4 without them in the snow and had a good
time.
The area I live in is 500km away and by the coast no snow here.
The place out west I drive my pickup truck is hot and dry. I'm only
now recovering from sunburn and 40C temps. I will likely get
skin cancer.
