International day against homophobia. |
Did anyone notice? I only picked it up after midnight on the Beeb
website, and I think it was yesterday. Must get a rainbow flag for the
side of the car that isn't going to have a cross of Saint George.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Who is St George and what does he provide protection from, please?

He's the patron saint of England (and Greece and various other places).
He rescued maidens from dragons. In this instance, the flags are because
England are off to the World cup in a short while. Nearer the time,
houses will blossom white and red.
He's the patron saint of soldiers.
Shakespeare is famous for being born on St George's Day (23rd of April).

O, THAT St. George. I understand now. Though I didn't know he was the
patron saint of England, much less Greece et al.

Thanks! Besides St. George's dragon connection, I didn't know any of
this. Interesting. And I'd even forgotten the dragon bit.... (Strange,
because The George and Dragon used to be a favorite pub hangout of
mine, pre-kid.)

I'm sure you know that Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, but did
you know that Andrew is the saint of Scotland, and for Wales it's David
(Dafydd, I think, or maybe Daffyd - there must be a depressed Welshman
or woman to give the correct spelling)?

I think I vaguely remember knowing that at some level at one point.
But it's been a while.
I think I need a patron saint; or at least, it couldn't help. Pity I'm
an atheist.

Dafydd is the only gay in the village but Dafydd is the patron saint of Wales.
At least according to wikipedia...
While we were in Maui, my hubby went to the men's room; however the door was
locked and he had to wait for a few minutes. When the door finally opened, out
walked TWO LADIES.

We had a purpose built bar at college, with only a gents. You got used
to using the urinals while women walked past you to use the cubicles.

line to use the rest rooms... by the way, if you would like to go back
to a tropical enviorment, I hope you'll join Rhiannon and Cyberdroog
