I think what Dean said is 100% right.Since 9/11/01,it's considered
"unpatriotic" by some people to critisize the president, which in my
opinion is totally crazy...As Theodore Roosevelt has said,to announce
that we should support the president right or wrong,or not crtisize
the president is not only unpatriotic and servile,it's morally
treasonable to the American public...

This has NOTHING to do with that "it's considered unpatriotic" crap. It has
to do with people that want to be President being able to act like adults
and so far none of them have shown me that they can.

Well, you and Dean are 100% wrong. I've got exactly ZERO respect for
someone like him that thinks there is nothing wrong with the kind of mud
slinging campaign that he is running. I don't care what he thinks
personally of other candidates. I want to hear where he stands on the
issues. He's been campaigning for a year and I still have yet to hear him
speak on any issue at any time. All I hear from him and the other Democrat
candidates is a constant stream of "Bush is bad! Bush is bad!" What a
bunch of losers. I wouldn't vote for any of them for hall monitor much less
President of the United States.

Ok, have a cigar then. :-)
You didn't offend me at all and I also hope that I didn't offend you. If I
did I apologize. It's just that this touches a nerve with me too and I tend
to react strongly to it. Sometimes too strongly. And I fully realize that
it's not just democrats that do it. Mudslinging by any candidate really
upsets me and these days it seems to be the standard tactic of many
politicians.

So speaking passionately about some issues that bug one now makes one
"mudslinging." Usually when I think of mudslinging, I think more along the
lines of the sort of crass content-free insult-infested diatribes along the
lines of Ann Coulter and her ilk. Has Dean gone out and called Dubya
derogatory names? How about accusing Dubya of being a drunk? Or at least be
entertaining about it and accuse Dubya of fucking goats? As far as I can
tell, none of that has happened. Nor has he gone out and initiated a
mudslinging campaign against his fellow opponents in the battle for the
nomination. He's had some sharp words, but nothing that I'd necessarily
characterize as cheap personal attacks. Now, some of his opponents, on the
other hand (Kerry, Lieberman come most readily to mind) have indeed
initiated those sorts of attacks towards Dean, and basically that's done
little to garner my faith in them. Dean's & Kucinich's campaigns have struck
me as being fairly clean in that regard, and as I've stated until I'm pretty
blue in the face, they've actually campaigned on some rather critical issues
facing our country -- all you have to do is read or listen. I'm generally
pretty informed regarding what the Democratic candidates are doing in their
campaigns, and I'm not seeing it. Maybe I've missed something. If so, please
point it out to me.

Sid,I really think you'd like this column,if you haven't already
read it.It talks about how in the 1960's "hate speach" was
specifically referring to bigoted words spoken against minority
groups. Now,the right wing has shifted the term to mean anyone who
speaks out against this president,(nevermind the fact that there was
just as much vitriol directed against President Clinton-if not more
so-as there is against Bush...)

For which the Right was denigrated by you guys on the Left. I recall

That would carry more weight if not for the tendency of right-wing types to
go into rather irrational territory -- e.g., spreading that lovely urban
myth that Clinton was going around murdering people, and so forth. Or
right-wing pundits stating on the air or in their books and columns that the
only way to deal with Clinton was either impeachment or assassination (that
little gem came from Ann Coulter, btw). The thing is, I just have yet to see
that level of vitriol leveled at Bush. I've seen a good deal of anger,
primarily directed towards policies that are at odds with what's left of our
Constitution, and/or are generally counter-productive (running up record
budget deficits, fighting wars based on lies).

I've criticized Rush Limbaugh on this group for being obsessive about
Clinton.
Again, it's not purely about a single instance of criticism or a set of
criticisms. It's about the overall picture.

Listen to 2 programs:
* Gene Burns from 7-10OPM PST
compare his show with either of these 2:
* Bernie Ward from 10-1AM PST
* Ray Taliaferro from 1-5AM PST
The first guy is very critical of Bush, was very critical of the war,
but is not a Bush basher. The other 2 are very critical of Bush and
were very critical of the war, but they are Bush bashers. So what do
you think the difference could be?
