I'd guess that some nuns do, people being people as you say.
But she had left the order years before, so she wasn't still
a nun. She and another woman founded a school for autistic
children. It was a double suicide with her partner. There
may have been some financial pressures because she was being
hounded for taxes on the revenue from the "singing nun"
days. But she never got any of that money, the convent did.

Wow... Wikipedia: "In 1967, she recorded a song entitled 'Glory Be to
God for the Golden Pill' ‹ a paean to contraception".
Her big hit: http://www.gipgipgip.com/dm/dominique.mp3
Haven't heard the song since way back when. Hard to imagine something
like that charting today.

"The Flying Nun" ties in a dead heat with "My Mother the Car" for the
title of "Stupidest Television Show Ever". The premise was that there
was this petite little nun (Sally Field) whose order wore large,
winglike wimples, and she was able to take advantage of the aerodynamic
properties of hers to fly.
