....that heroin became illegal in the UK. Anyone something natural could
be bad for you.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Not natural, but a damn fine cough suppressant. Sat on the shelves for a
couple years too before mr. inventor decided to see how a dog would react.
He worked for Bayer, Heroin is ©, di-acetyl morphine IIRC is the real name.

Yeah, I do that all the time. After I have posted I know the
words were in my head and am very surprised they didn't end up in
the post.
The FDA was established to get morphine out of foodstuffs.
Primarily children's cough medicine. That was a good thing. They
achieved that and suddenly had nothing to do so they concentrated
on cannabis which, at that stage, only a few people were smoking.
They are solely responsible for making cannabis the drug of
choice for billions world-wide.

The cannabis thing was really not cared about by the drug "czar" of the
day. Thank William Randolph Hearst for really pushing that one.

I didn't know about Hearst's involvement. Do tell.

It's a natural instinct to try anything that's been made illegal. I'm
thinking of taking up brothel keeping as soon as the government's
buggered up the prostitution laws again.

Heroin isn't natural, it's a semi-synthetic, a substance synthesized from
a natural one, morphine.

When I read the subject line I thought this was going to be about Sergeant Pepper's Lonelyhearts
Club Band. Quel disappointment.
