Object: It's Sunday.
Who have I got left from my New Year phone calls? I called my brother,
which is the first time this century. Sisters, yes. School friend, yes.
I'm sure there's someone else I had on my, unfortunately only mental,
list. I need to use paper lists more, then I'll have something to lose
besides my mind.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

I didn't bother this year. It doesn't seem to make any difference
anyway.

i hate answering the phone. it's never for me and they all talk German
at me. if it isn't telemarketing, it's someone wanting Alu who
invariably doesn't speak English. so i don't, ever.
i got a handy using the same phone company as Alu so it only costs us
4cents per call to talk to each other. i gave the number to an American
friend in Hamburg (he doesn't answer his phone either). if my handy
rings, i know it's for me and in English.
i haven't given my number to any of Alu's family because they'll only
call and ask for Alu when they can't reach him. in 10 years i've only
gotten about 15 calls.

This brings back memories. When we lived in Holland I used to never
answer the phone for the same reasons. I used to say to Judith, "Its
probably for you" even after I became fluent in Dutch.
Now we have been living back in NZ the situation has been reversed but
I realize I still hate answering the phone. So I still throw out the
same line. I'm usually right though, she is the social butterfly and
most of the calls are for her.
I have had my mobile on for the whole holiday and only received one
call. It was a work question.

take some extra magazines or newspapers to a hospital emergency room.
i did that when the wife was in the hospital, and felt like a
millionaire when i walked by there on the way to the parking area when
i visited her nightly for a week.
