Jealousy is a horrible thing... |
Jealousy is a terrible thing to feel in my opinion...I should
know...I've felt it many,many times in my life...and I know that some
people have felt jealous of me...There's just something so SAD about
feeling it,so awful...it's hard to even put it into words,there's just
something really WRONG abount the feeling...Of course,I believe that
all feelings are understandable and acceptable to feel,as are all
thoughts-if you feel or think them for a certain amount of time...but
to feel jealousy for an extended about of time,just seems so wrong
wrong wrong to me...It really is hard even to put in into words...

Hi Alvin,
The emotion has some things going for it. Two things come to mind:
1)It can help keep relationships together, by signaling a partner that
its time to herd-off the competition.
2)A jealous has-not may be prompted by the unpleasantness of their
jealous feelings to make positive changes in their life.
I'll bet the kind of jealousy you're talking about is the type that may
as well be a pox. A line from the desiderata comes to mind (you tell
me if it applies):
"Do not compare yourself to others. Should you do so, you will become
either vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser
persons than yourself."

yes,that's exactly,exactly it...It seems to me that there's
something so petty,so small minded,so mean spirited about jealousy,if
it's carried out over a long period of time...I've experianced it
myself and I know people have felt that way towards me...It's just a
very ugly thing,I think,if it takes root in you...it deminishes you as
a person...and I also relate to the comparing thing...I'm always
telling myself that comparing,just like judging,worrying and
obsessing,does no good...there will always be people who are better at
certain things,and worse at certain things,older and younger,faster and
slower,and son on...it's all a continuum,and everyone is somewhere on
that circular continuum...also,we are all unique individuals with our
own unique gifts...comparing myself to another person is pointless,in
many ways,I think...I like the story where this guy wanted to be like
Moses all his life,and when he died,God said to him something like:
"I'm not angry at you for not being like Moses,I'm angry at you for not
being the best 'you' that you could be"

Everyone feels envy the trick is to recognize whats happening. To
stop it from hurting you or anyone else. The sad truth is the green
eyed monster takes people over and they act out. They seek to destroy
the thing/person they are jealous of. To tear them down and
invalidate them. To humilate them. Then they are sad to see it
happen. Life can be so hard.
jealousy is what happens when envy takes root in your heart and grows.
Everyone has moments of doubt ,,,,,,,,, don't let them grow! realize
whats happening ! Beware the green eyed monster! don't let it take you
over!
The seeds of jealousy that seem to be thier in all our hearts are one
of the main reasons why I despair for the future of humanity. . jill

They have to be sown. And watered and weeded. No need to despair. There
are lots of other seeds to sow instead.
