I've had one of those, and in my case it was a total waste of time. My
problem
was not being able to fall asleep. Being plugged into all those wires
with
an oximeter on my hand in a room where I was being watched - uh, it
didn't
help. I probably slept about an hour.
Was it uncomfortable for you too? Or was there a crappy technician or
something?

No, she was pleasant. But I drove an hour to be there at 7:30. And
when she started to hook me up at 8 or so, I said, " Why am I here at 8
o'clock trying to sleep? I go to bed at 2, if i'm lucky." I just had
dreaded it for days, and had a meltdown. I smoke 4 packs of cigarettes
a day, and a pack through the night as I'm sleeping. I just ain't like
people who can walk into a room and be told to stay there without
smoking for 12 hours. It's typical me, I've been like this since I was
3. I hate it, but F**k it: I got no love, no life, a cat at my feet
with cancer, and 15 cartons of cigarettes. I drove home at 85. Screw
it all.
but thanks for responding....elliemae...is that real or from my
favorite TV show? 'kinfolk said, Jed move away from there, said
Californy is the place you oughta be, so thay loaded up the truck and
they moved to Beverly....Hills that is....swimmin' pools...movie

Actually, Ellie Mae is the name of a dog on a tv commercial... I just
really liked it, thought it was pretty. My youngest cat is named Ellie
Mae. Silly, I know.
How on earth did they think they would get an accurate idea of your
sleep patterns in a lab, when your sleep is so interrupted and at
completely different hours? There must be something to it that I'm not
seeing. It would make sense for, say, someone who does sleep 7 or 8
hours a night but is dead tired all the time - hook them up, they go to
sleep easily, then they can check for sleep apnea and all that stuff.
I know so many people who have had sleep studies done, and it was
evident even before they went in that there was no point.
Starting to go on an anti-doctor rant... must stop now!
What I meant to say was, I feel for you.

Because I'm an impulsive ***** and they have to play by my
rules.....no sleep attempts at 8 pm at night. I tried, I had a ham
sandwich in my bag. The nicotine gum stuck to my bridgework. Knew i
should have bought the lozenge. And sparked up a doobie before going
in.
Truthfully, I think I have something so wrong with my brain, that will
turn into Parkinson's...and I'm an ***** for not staying...but I
couldn't stay in a room ....(please) read what I wrote ellie mae below.
Peace, Tim Kett (if that's your REAL name....) I saw that on 'Police
Squad ' I think.

I think they try so hard to replicate the "normal" sleep experience,
they can't accommodate people's actual sleep habits. Don't know what
the solution is to that... have someone come to YOUR house, hook you
up and monitor you while you do your regular sleep routine? Taking
nicotine replacement when you normally smoke, trying to sleep at 8 and
through the night when you normally go down at 2 and get up during the
night for cigs (you sound EXACTLY like my Dad, by the way!) - they
would never get an accurate picture of your sleep cycles anyway.
If there really is something wrong, wouldn't an EEG or other tests work
just as well?
I hope you get it sorted out. But really, please don't beat yourself
up over leaving. Having
had it done once, I know how truly unpleasant it is.
