Yeah, that's what I always do before getting behind the wheel of a car.
I think that every one of my meds says it may cause drowsiness and to
beware when using machinery. I'd say that driving is one thing I can
always do, but I can't remember what it was like before meds, which may
have something to do with that.

My meds as well, but Kennedy said specfically that he took a *sleep*
medication. I mean, that was its primary function and if his intention was
to sleep he should have been getting into bed, not getting into his car. Of
course, if his "sleep driving-voting" story is true it would explain his
actions, but it sounds awfully far fetched to me. Mind you, I have never
taken Ambien so perhaps he's telling the truth.

I think he's telling the truth. I did the same thing after taking 2
(maybe more) of my brother in law's ambien after drinking. I have
very little recollection of the incident, but I wrecked my car, the
cops showed up and I must have talked coherently as he put me in a cab
home and my car was towed, and this was at 3 am. Later I received a
bill from the ambulance company - do not remember the ambulance
showing up but had a gash on my forehead. And when I got my car back
there was a traffic warning ticket in the glove box for not
signalling, so I actually had 2 encounters with cops and the
paramedics without getting a DUI...this is a scary drug.

Now that is truly frightening. I would have been terrified to suddenly come
to like that and not remember anything. I suppose some sort of control is
in order. Much the same as the DUI laws in place now. It's disconcerting
to know a prescribed medication can be that dangerous.
Do you remember a few years back that guy who murdered his parents-in-law in
his sleep after taking a drug and had absolutely no memory of what he had
done? Unfortunately the jury was not convinced that you could actually
"sleep kill" and he was found guilty on two counts of 1st degree murder. It
would seem now that his story might have been true afterall.

Apparently there have been quite a few cases documented recently where people
took ambien, went to sleep, and then woke to find themselves driving a car or
doing other things far from their bed.
It appears to be a medication-induced form of extreme sleepwalking.
So either Kennedy actually took meds (and is telling the truth) or he was
impaired (and he's using the ambien story to cover up drunk driving).
According to the police who pulled him over, he appeared to be drunk, so I
expect they asked him to blow up the balloon. The breathalyzer will confirm the
truthiness of his story.
Meantime, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Since this thread began I did a little research and between first hand
accounts like yours and the medical data available, this drug is really
frightening. I understand the drug has a purpose and may be necessary in a
lot of cases, yet it makes me wonder how a doctor can be allowed to
prescribe a drug with such unpredictable side effects. If nothing else, I
believe Kennedy's story now. I'm just glad no one was hurt or killed.

I've wondered what a person could do if they were taking the drug to
ensure that such things don't happen. they are no doubt rare, there
are supposedly 43 million prescriptions a year in the US for the
stuff, but when the reaction does happen the results can be so bad. I
think I'd want to handcuff myself to the bed and hide the key.

I've never heard of shot term memory loss associated with the hypnotic

happened, but somehow it doesn't seem real.

If that report is accurate, I'll have to give the guy the benefit of a
doubt. I have taken Ambian in the past and it left me in a hypnotic state
doing very weird things.
Imagine living with that the rest of your life and not even remember doing
it. What a nightmare.
I've never heard of shot term memory loss associated with the hypnotic
effect of Ambian. It's more like remembering a dream. You know it
happened, but somehow it doesn't seem real.
I have that problem with real reality.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

I do at times also. I fear that is a form of psychotic depression.

Yeah, that's what I always do before getting behind the wheel of a car.
Ambian no less. That stuff knocked me for a loop. If I fought to stay
awake after taking it, I was in a sort of hypnotic state.
