Object: kindness springs from confidence...
i'm not sure about that one, although, i do have a story that came to
mind that points out how it might have something to do with it.
when i go to the annual cfp conferences, some things are always the
same. it's always in a big city. there is always so much
excess...more juice than can possibly be drunk, more snacks and fruit
than there are conference attendants.
i like to gather a few of the extra juices and snack bars or whatever
is available. before i leave town i take a walk down the main strip,
where there are always homeless people.
one time i held out a bottle of grapefruit juice to a homeless woman
in a wheelchair and she started screaming at me..."i don't want
grapefruit juice...i want money for food".
so, here comes the confidence part, i guess...
i thought it was funny and just gave the juice to a guy on the next
block. i think if i didn't have confidence, i'd never offer a
homeless person food again.
i dunno...

helping the less fortunate feels good. i haven't done much of it. but
when i do, it feels really good. takes my mind off of ME for
awhile.
sometimes when i would go down into Chicago, people would ask me for
money and I would hand out some bills. but then i wised up because
they'd probably be using it for street drugs or booze. so instead i
started handing out FOOD, which cant be used for drugs & booze (ok i
suppose it could be traded but not as easily as with money).
sometimes i would even have someone come in with me to McDonalds and
I'd buy them a meal, and THAT was really good cause then i'd sit down
with them and talk to them for awhile.
there no visible hunger or homelessness in the suburbs -- i am always
feeling like everyone is superior to me or at least equal, because its
all houses, cars and STUFF. but in the city, when you see people
laying in the street with a blanket, sleeping. it changes my view of
things. all of a sudden, i can make a difference. whereas, out here
in lalal land, you don't see people needing help, everyone is just
trying to get ahead and get on with their day.
the city is definitally more real than the suburbs. i don't think i
could live in the city though. my brother? he eats, sleeps and
drinks downtown Chicago city life.

Compassion never dies. Confidence fails. I was confronted by a guy
with no legs in a wheelchair outside a post office. He wanted a
ride. Then he fell out of his chair. I told the PO people to call
the police. Then I went out and he was asleep in the gutter. Police
came, guy woke up, we put him in the truck and I dropped him off at a
liquor store with 5 dollars.
Apparently you have compassion. It's a laudable trait.

i dunno...
