leagal version of napster? |
is there a legal version of napster? you know where i'm charged by the song
or something? there a million (well many) different songs i'd love to have,
but i don't want to buy the entire cd for just a song or two.
stuff from nanci grifith to mojo nixion to lyle lovett to nick lowe .. to
the ramones .. ..

Napster is legal now, as a pay service. There are others also. Apple
iTunes. Microsoft has something. I think WalMart has, or is developing, a
music service.
I don't know the details, but I suspect that some of these are not just
"download and do what you will" systems. Some use copy protection, with
systems for tying files to a particular computer or portable device. That
is ridiculous in my opinion.
There are, of course, endless newsgroups for MP3's... but that's a moral
dilemma.

Actualy, there is now a legal version of napster. It's called . . .
Napster!
Apple's itunes has the best reputation as far as I know.
