Object: libraries these days
At one of the libraries where I go to use the internet, acess is denied
to any website discussing sex, violence, alcohol, tobacco or illegal
drugs ect...even hotmail,because it's a chat area.even posts on ASD
that have any hint of violence in them,a "violent" word. It's crazy.I
can understand that they don't want children to acess these
websites, but it's frustrating as an adult.

That's a little extreme.
It's one thing to be careful about what the library computers are used
for but they sound like dumb terminals that will only access Xtian web
sites, and that's censorship.
The local public has software that removes access to certain programs
on the computer (to prevent improper use) but they actually advertise
that you can access your online email there. It's considered an
internet "access" site and though it does use software to block
'inappropriate' content, I haven't ever had a problem myself finding
something I was looking for , or wanted to see , on the net from the
Library.
I have been there after someone had mistakenly forgotten to sign out
of their hotmail so when I opened the page, poof, I was in their email
account.
So I wrote them a polite note in their email about remembering to log
off after using hotmail at a public terminal and signed him out.
It was funny though.

IOW if someone here warns guys not to make typical guy "nuke 'em from
orbit" or "wish I had a bazooka" jokes to therapists you won't see
the post.
Ditto for ppl trying to stop using any of the afore-mentioned substances.

That's a little extreme.

I agree.

I don't think its quite like that, but it is a filtering system.
Haven't tried our local library system for any "questionable"
content, but I can check a yahoo account on it.

So I wrote them a polite note in their email about remembering to log

Well the xtian websites thing was just sarcasm.... but some of those
net monitor programs are a little over cautious.
And 'Net nanny' even states they don't consider wiccan/pagan sites
'appropriate' and they are part of the automatically blocked sites in
the program.
Or they were when I used it a few years ago.
I emailed them and asked them about what I felt was a problem with the
program. They informed me I was wrong.

Don't you just love it when people tell you that what you're thinking is
wrong?

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

The library I go to in Placerville CA seems to allow the sites I pick
(including this one). I have not tried any really explicit ones
though. I could see all of the ASD posts so maybe my local one is not
that censored. The "children's" row of computers probably would be
though.
