Has anyone had success with light boxes for SAD? Comments?

I've used one for years; it keeps me from turning suicidal in the
winter, even with some massive drug therapy. I did try going without for
five days once, and my mood plummeted. It came back up when I restarted
light therapy. I've already started this year, about a month early;
August was so dark and dreary here, a lot of people have switched their
lights on.
As to what you need - lots of light you can sit near (a foot or so away)
without getting too much UV. Artificial daylight makes it more
comfortable to use, but isn't necessary - just lots of light.
Remember, if you sit twice as close, you get four times the light.

I got a bunch of 4' flourescent lamp fixtures, loaded them with
warm-white, Chroma-50, and Chroma-75 lamps, and faced them
at the ceiling. added some grow-lux, just-because, later on...

if you're going to grow that stuff use sodium lamps.
start out with Chroma-75s and a relatively cool temp
and run them 24/7. this seems to up the female ratio
go to Grow-lux HO or VHO and run for ten hours a day
see who is who. elimanate the males and go-back to
a 24-hour regieme untill the sex is less profound, then
to eighteen hours for vegetative. take cuttings and
put them under another set of vegatative lamps. gro
the things to the size you want, then switch to the Na
vapor lamps and start cutting the on-time back to under
12 hours, while increasing the phosphorus fertilizer...
if you can create hermaphrodites, use the pollen to
get seeds--the plants will always turn-out to be females
