Listening to Sad Songs |
singing about being alone and things of that nature.
Thoughts and feelings I had forgotten about.
It's been a long time.

There are absolutely one song I cannot listen to anymore. When I was
pregnant with my son, listening to it crushed me, and four years after
giving birth, the same song still deeply saddens me. There's a reason
why, too.

what song is it, louise? if you are able to talk about it, of course. and
i will understand if you'd rather not. it's just that i understand exactly
what you are saying here. there are a few sad songs that were popular back
during the deepest darkest days of my depression, and i can't hear those
songs even now without instantly feeling the most horrible despair. usually
it's in the grocery store over the loudspeaker that the songs will come on,
and i will suddenly feel as if i'm no longer apart of the world around me.
often i will find myself freezing and just staring at nothing while the song
(and the torture) goes on and on. sometimes i can't stop the tears from
coming, and i feel like such a fool standing there in the grocery store
aisle, staring at cans of green beans with tears falling down my face. but
yet, i am almost imprisoned by the intensity of the feeling and am powerless
to even move until the song is over and the despair begins to fade.
i've often wondered if anyone else ever felt that way....

Hi, U2B--the song is "All I want to Do is Make Love to You," be heart.
It was a remake I listened to, back in South Africa--but the words of
course, were the same.
If you know the song and what it meant, you'd have seen the tragedy in
it. It bothered me because it was a man who didn't know he had
fathered a child, and to see his child but couldn't touch him was
worse, because of the circumstances around the time of conception, I
thought I was empathetic towards the father in the song, and I still am
when I listen to the song, but I remembered that I was not the wanted
child. For some reason I connected the two. Either way, both
situations suck royally.
I am crying as I talk about it, now. :-( Sorry!

I'm like that right now with the Evanescence song My Immortal. When my
friend Carolyn and I drove out to New Brunswick, to see our friend
Adrienne, Carolyn got a cd with that song. She somehow knew that we
would not see Adrienne alive again. She played that song over and over
during the ride home. Just over a week later, Adrienne died. We went
back for the funeral, and again Carolyn played that CD. I went to see
a movie yesterday and that song started playing over the theatre's
sound system. I just lost it and could not stop the tears.

i sure understand, hun. unfortunately now, you will most likely *never* be
able to hear that song without being flooded with sadness.
i sure am sorry for your loss.
