I suspect the word you're failing to find is berk. It comes from rhyming
slang on Berkely Hunt. Burke was a Scottish grave robber. The nearest I
got to that is taking a cutting from a scented rose growing over a group
of old graves.

Robert O'Hara Burke was also an Australian explorer who died of thirst and
starvation while crossing Australia from North to South :)

It stabilises my depression - I rapid cycle, and have longer down
periods without it.
