Oh I hope they throw the book at these little pricks. But I'm sure
they're really nice boys who just did something momentarily stupid. Uh
huh. The guy they hit was knocked unconscious and crashed his car, he
was almost killed. The rock went right throw the windshield, broke his
jaw, and shattered all his bottom teeth. tee hee.

I have some dellusional thinking revolving around authority figures. It's
hard to really describe and would rather not in a public forum, though I
understand that this type of thing (the dellusions) is common among those
with mental illness. I hope that the parents are aware of this and seek help
for their children.

They aren't really children. They're 18 and 19. I hope they get put away
for a really long time.
Out here there are people throwing rocks off of overpasses at cars. They
haven't been caught, but they will. A few months ago, someone spit on my
car from a pedestrian overpass. It was some early teen-aged kid. I
chased him two blocks, turned on a road and parked. Then I got out of
the car and waited for him to pass on his bike, when he did I jumped out
and pushed him off the bike. While he was on the ground, I grabbed his
bike and threw it around and popped the tires. I kicked him in the
ground told him if he did it again I'd kill his *****. I doubt he'll do
anything like that agian anytime soon.

Yes, I can understand you feelings after your own personal
experience.
This has nothing to do with your experience or this case but I
just wanted to mention it:
Recently here a youth threw a lump of concrete over a railing of
a highway overpass. It happened to go through the windscreen of a
car killing the young driver.
The man killed was a local hero football player. The kid that
through the cement was 14 years old and had done it as a dare
from one of his school friends.
I'm not condoning anything. I was shocked at the pure tragedy of
that event. At the death of a good young man with his future
before him. At the destruction of the future of the 14 year old
who will have this on his conscience for the rest of his life.
Nothing is quite as it seems. Sometimes even justice doesn't suffice.

"throwing the book" would, IMO, be a
deterrent to future perps.

14 yr olds do stupid things, they're cognitive skills aren't fully
developed yet. These guys are 18 and 19, they're college students.
They knew what they were doing. What's surprising me is the replies to
this, seems throwing rocks at cars is the new in thing to do. Yikes.
Sorry Glenn, I don't get it at all. Even at 14 I was smart enough to
know that something like this was, um, a little serious. We threw
cherries at cars, we threw snowballs at cars. But not brick-sized rocks.

Yeah, I don't get it either. There was much media coverage and it
did come out that there is a developing practice of throwing
stuff at traffic.
Maybe the wide coverage of this terrible event will help put a
damper on it but you never know. The young driver was coming to
Auckland to receive an award for his football prowess. His
girlfriend was with him and although she was relatively unhurt
apparently she is in a very bad state emotionally now.
I wonder at our society where so many are becoming
disenfranchised. These thoughts just take me down so I'm going to
do what most people do... try and ignore it and hope I'm lucky.
Fairness seems to have taken a holiday and there is nothing I can
do about it except try and be a good citizen and hope enough
people do the same.

I don't think it's anything new. Like many terrible things we hear about
today, the media makes it seem like it's happening every ten minutes.
But I can recall as a child the walkways built over roads in my
neighborhood in Milwaukee. At first they were just elevated sidewalks.
Later, they had wire canopies on them to prevent throwing things over the
side.
I bet Romans in chariots had things thrown at them on occasion also.

More, from today's Sacramento Bee. Oh, they're actually good boys, this
was totally out of character for them, you see. On the football team,
how surprising. The football coach calls the event "unfortunate". Oi.
----
Two former California State University, Sacramento, football players
turned themselves in to Amador County authorities Monday afternoon after
a rock-throwing incident earlier this month on Jackson Highway shattered
a motorist's jaw and left him seriously injured.
Westy Dean Guill, 18, and Brendon Hugh "Bo" DeLapp, 19, are accused of
mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily
injury, conspiracy and 14 counts of vandalism for the Nov. 9 attack.
They face a total of 18 counts, 14 of which are felonies.
Returning from Jackson Rancheria casino, Guill and DeLapp began throwing
rocks from their vehicle into oncoming traffic, said Amador County
District Attorney Todd Riebe.
One, a large river rock, smashed through the windshield of Parish
Compton's 1997 Saturn, hitting his face and causing him to veer off the
highway, Riebe said.
Riebe described the rock that tore through Compton's windshield as
"bigger than a softball and smaller than a bowling ball." Court
documents say it hit Compton with such force that it "disable(d) the
tongue, and put out an eye and slit the nose, ear and lip."
"It looked like to them that the vehicle had gone off the road, but they
didn't stop," Riebe said. "They even continued to throw rocks."
Compton, 33, was on his way to work at the casino when he was hit, said
his mother, Gene Compton.
Parish Compton's jaw is now wired shut after two surgeries to
reconstruct his face, she said. He will need several more operations.
"It's really a mess. It's really taken a toll on him," she said. "Just
on his way to work."
The rock knocked Parish Compton unconscious, and his car ran into a
fence. When he came to, dazed and bleeding heavily, Compton stumbled to
a nearby house for help.
Although Compton was the only person injured that night, Guill and
DeLapp damaged 13 other cars with rocks, authorities say. The California
Highway Patrol received numerous reports of cars hit by rocks between
9:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. that night, Riebe said.
Guill, a freshman, and DeLapp, who redshirted as a freshman last year,
both made the CSUS football roster at the beginning of the season, but
neither played for the Hornets this year, said coach Steve Mooshagian.
Guill, a linebacker from Clovis, was suspended from the team last month
for attendance issues, and DeLapp, an offensive lineman, quit the team
in September to return home to Fresno for more playing time at a junior
college, Mooshagian said.
Mooshagian described the alleged incident as "unfortunate and inexcusable."
"The unfortunate thing is if they had been part of the team, they would
have been at practice" that day, he said. "Neither one of them had any
other problems in any way."
Reached by telephone in Clovis, Wynona Herron said the accusations
against her grandson, Westy Guill, sound out of character for the
standout athlete who excelled in soccer, baseball, wrestling and football.
"This does not sound like him. I'm shocked," she said. "He's never been
involved in anything like this."
Efforts to reach Guill's immediate family and DeLapp's relatives were
unsuccessful.
Both men have clean records, but the felonies they now face are
considered "strikes," which means any subsequent major crimes would
carry longer punishments under the state's "three strikes" law, Riebe said.
Guill and DeLapp surrendered to the CHP on Monday afternoon, and they
are being held in lieu of $150,000 bail each.
They will be arraigned today.

was almost killed. The rock went right throw the windshield, broke his
jaw, and shattered all his bottom teeth. tee hee.

More, from today's Sacramento Bee. Oh, they're actually good boys, this
was totally out of character for them, you see. On the football team,
how surprising. The football coach calls the event "unfortunate". Oi.

Hahahahaha. What a load of *****! Man, yea I bet this was a one time
occurance. I bet they were on their way home from rescuing kitties from
a tree. If you've got the gaul to throw rocks at random innocents, it
would only make sense that you've done it before, and will probably do
it again. I hope they suffer for no other reason than they're such good
boys. I hope they drop the soap in the shower.

Logically there has to be a first time.
