Object: Looking for some help
Hello,
I believe I suffer from depression. Unfortunately, my insurance
doesn't cover anything mental health related. So, I don't know what or
how to take care of myself. I'm afraid to talk to my Doc or talk to my
state or county mental health offices. But I'm at my wits end. I am now
seeing what this is doing to myself and what it is doing to others in my
life and I really want help. Ideally, I want therapy and meds but I will
settle just for meds.
The way I found out my insurance won't cover mental health was my
Doc wanted to give Welbutrun to help me with my smoking but it was
turned down. My Doc gave me some sample packs and it worked for the
smoking and also I felt happy and my friends noticed a positive change
in me. I talked to my insurance provider and was told nothing for mental
health is covered and because my plan is a state plan as long as I am on
it won't matter who admisters the plan. This just adds to the problem.
All, I know is I want to be happy. I don't want to cry when I get a
touch of happiness.
I have been searching the Internet the last few days and I am
learning more about depression (and thinking that I really do suffer)
and that Meds and theorpy are the way to go but that does me no good at
this time since I can't cover the cost out of pocket. I was thinking a
support group might be the way to go for now. I figure I can't be alone
in this but there don't seem to be any in my area.
I'm at a loss. I just want help. I want to feel and be happy again
and not have my friendships stressed. Can someone out there please help
me. At least point me in the right direction.
Please help . . .
.

Hello,

I believe I suffer from depression. Unfortunately, my insurance
doesn't cover anything mental health related.

Welcome to asd TC. Feel free to post whatever you feel or want to say.
I wish I could help with the insurance, but I can't think of anything
helpful there.
You might try a couple of over-the-counter supplements (one at a time!) that
claim to help with depression. One is St John's Wart. I've read studies
that show it to be of some benefit when compared with more traditional
anti-depressives.

Another one that claims to help with depression is SAM-e.

I haven't tried either myself. Keep in mind that many anti-depressives can
take 4-6 weeks to work so don't give up if you don't feel better right away.
I hope this helps,
Bruce.

Bruce,
Thank you for the information. I will have to research it some.
