so i'm off to put them in page protectors and hang them up around the
neighborhood with my 7 yr old.

Now you're talking...I think they're more effective in mail boxes than
on poles (even though its illegal).
well, i'm worried that it might be illegal on stop signs as well. and the
fact that my phone number is on the sign doesn't help. but i'd rather get
in trouble for putting them on stop signs than in people's mail boxes.
besides, we don't have the regular mail box system here in austin that most
folks have. we have grouped mail boxes down the street in a common
area....it's more like a small post office on posts. no way to put flyers
in each individual mail box either. i miss my old mail box on a post at the
end of my driveway. :/

nope. it's all underground here. there are light poles though, but the
reason i put them on stopsigns was because that's where people actually
*stop.* i figured they'd be more likely to read a sign that way. now i'm
starting to get nervous about putting them on stop signs. :( but mine
wasn't the only one on some of the signs, so maybe i will be okay.

The cops won't show up. What happens is you get a citation in the mail
with a fine for each sign you put up. When I was on probation work crew
we used to take down old signs (in Salt Lake they're illegal, but only
enforced if you don't take them down within a reasonable amount of time,
or if you're a buisness) The fine here is $300 per posted sign. I don't
think we ever took down a lost kitty or dog sign though.
