Ya know, when I saw him do it on the show, it sounded familiar. Is
there a rest between the 2 hellos at the end of the chorus dada say
hello....(rest).....hello.
? If there is , I recognize it, maybe heard it for the second time ever
when I saw him do it, but I don't remember the first time. Great song,
timeless.

John Prine...only saw him once, "Austin City Limits." He's no slouch
when it comes to writing.

I visit a man in the altzheimer's unit of an old age home about once
a week... being there, seeing all the old faces, trying to say "hi" to
people, reminded me of this song...

Good for you. Can't walk through a place like that not wanting to go
up to everyone and talk to them for hours. Come to think of it, you
smile and say 'hi', and they look like they recognize you sometimes,
especially if they start seeing you everyday. Lotta hanging in the
hallways. Bob wouldn't join them, he was too busy trying to go home.
I spent last Feb. in one twice a day, because the staff sucked, and I
did our usual routine, get him up, put him to bed. teeth (freakin
clogged sink, I complained, to no avail.) lighting, alarm explanation 7
days a week (the one they click to your shirt). I sprung him a week
early, against advice (cause they get huge medicare money for a 30 day
stay.
This was about a song, sorry. Good song.// gotta check the fire in the
fireplace.

Of course, temporary dementia is not alzheimers, thank goodness.
