Hello all.
What does one have to do to get help around here.. I see a lot of negative
things said to people and a lot of stuff that looks useful?
I dont know if I am suffering from Depression or Grief... is there any line
drawn between these two?
Thanx

my pdoc put it rather simply. 'Depression' (as opposed to feeling depressed)
is long term glumness. i.e., over years rather than weeks or even months. It
was on that basis that i was diagnosed, anyway. That, and ppl phobias plus
motivation prob.. This is one 'definition' and a rather simplistic one at
that. You certainly don't have to wait a long period of time for a pattern
to emerge or anything like that to get a diagnosis. This is from the web:
Criteria for a major depressive episode.
A person must exhibit either of the following almost daily for at least a
two week period.
1. A persistent sad or depressed mood.
2. Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in usually pleasurable
activities.
3. Plus at least any four of the following:

Significant weight loss or, atypically, weight gain.
Insomnia, hypersomnia, or early morning awakening.
Psychomotor agitation or retardation.
Decreased energy or fatigue.
Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, worthlessness or helplessness.
Difficulty thinking, concentrating, remembering or making decisions.
Recurrent thoughts of death, suicidalidation, a suicide attempt, or a

specific plan for suicide.

it is interesting that you tippy toed over this one point
Q : Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, worthlessness or helplessness.
as noted since by others, you are (and should be) feeling guilty.
Repent! (literal meaning = change your ways)

Yes there is a line drawn between depression and grief. Grief is a process.
Depression is a condition, usually accompanied with a chemical imbalance in
the brain. I suffer from depression. And I'm here to be a friend if you need
one. You're not alone my friend.

No problem. I'm glad that you are getting help. And I'm glad that you are
battling grief instead of depression. Grief is something that can be handled
a bit more easily than depression. Both are not good, or comfortable at
all. But at least with grief there is an end to the tunnel. Anyhow, I'm
here if you need a friend ...
