Object: Melting Antarctic Polar Ice
This has been one of the environmentalists favorite cries over the years.
The polar caps are melting and will flood the entire earth. Even though
all sensible people know that the temperatures are still sub-zero and ice
doesn't melt in sub-zero temperatures.
So what's going on? Could it be that big ***** volcano they have found under
Antarctica? Volcano hot, ice melt? Sounds pretty simple.
The hard part: finding a way to blame the existence of a volcano on
America...

Simplistic, you mean.
Do you really believe that this volcano has nothing to do with W's blatant
attempt to take over the world?
If "W" hadn't spent the surplus to invade peaceful countries all over the
world, the US would have the tech. ability by now to send Bruce Willis and
Irwin Allen to the bottom of the sea and shut the damn thing off before it
drove electricity prices up this summer.

No, that's not right. Environmentalists knew better. The only people who
have ever been spewing nonsense like that are detractors making things up
to try and make environmentalism appear ill-informed.

all sensible people know that the temperatures are still sub-zero and
ice doesn't melt in sub-zero temperatures.

It's not the continental temperatures that at issue, it's ocean
temperatures. The problem was first noted way back in the sixties, but this
is what is going on now: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2040532.stm

There were times in the past when all the water on earth was water, no
ice caps, but there is no evidence that the entire planet was ever
flooded. It was a sci-fi movie, Waterworld, that proposed the flooded
earth scenario. I don't think it was produced by environmentalists.

Actually there are several literary references to a flooded earth prior to
Edison, let alone Kostner.

First of all, the status of the North polar ice cap doesn't affect the
ocean levels at all, since it floats. Only the South polar ice cap,
which rests on land, makes a difference.
Second, total melting of the South polar ice cap would raise the ocean
level by (if I remember correctly) about 80 feet, nowhere near enough
to cover all the land.
However, if the South polar ice cap melts, Chthulhu will be released
from his frozen entombment, and resume his diabolical plan to enslave
humanity by selling psychoactive squid pizzas below cost. (Food for
thought, eh?)

Which, if traced, would most likely reduce to a single, or a limited number of sources, originating from an area that was probably flooded somewhere in the past - most likely in the Middle East.
Indeed, I think it has been done already.
