I agree. RAID is right up there with SCSI.

I'd introduce you to my SCSI RAID 5 setup on my main box. Uses an
Adaptec 2120S and 4 18GB 15k Seagate Cheetahs. The only slow thing about
the whole get up is waiting for the damn controller to initialize.
I also have a RAID 0 array on the same card consisting of a couple of
derelict 36GB 10k drives but it's got really no really needed use other
than being done because I had the pieces and could.
One of my favorite SCSI features has to be staggered spin up. I get a
real kick out of hearing each drive wake up. The Seagates all sound the
same of course, but one of the other drives is a Maxtor Atlas 10K IV and
it has a VERY unique calibration noise. Charming in it's own way. Maxtor
even put up a knowledge base article with a .wav file.
I imagine there was a great deal of concern by the early adopters.

Naw, I'm just sort of like a luxury car salesman. He drives one too but
just has the inside source to get it at a reasonable price.
I made a friend at newegg and their employee discount can be staggering
on some items. Damn decent even if it's not an internal blue-light special.
I use flashy Mushkin RAM because the company is based out of colorado
and it's yet another inside connection.
It started with one 15k drive...and became a drive speed obsession. The
slowest part of the equation after all so I knew it would take an
overkill approach. LOL
