Object: Moments with Maia
Last night, she was sleeping on her little bed with her hand in the loop at
the end of her leash on Doggie. "Doggie" is a bottle, and the leach is a
pink ribbon that Kristina tied around it. I guess all had been forgiven by
bedtime. Earlier, she had told us that Doggie had had to go to timeout.
"Why?" we wanted to know. "He stepped on my puzzle," she had said.
We gave avocados to our neighbors, today, and also to two families down the
hill from us. They both have dogs and have been generous in letting Maia
play with them. One of them was out with her two shih-tzus. Maia ran from
end to end of the fence, getting them to chase her inside their yard, until
her little cheeks were pink and flushed.
"Daddy not holding hands," she announced to Kristina on the way back. And
then she indicated where I should walk to be safe--"Stay this side," she
said, pointing. She's so bossy where I am concerned.
She wanted to sit on my lap tonight, after her bath. I knew that she wanted
me to tickle her, and I did. And then picked her up and balanced her
against the top of my chest so I could tickle her sides. She squealed with
laughter. She has a great laugh.
Later on, she told Kristina that she was a hula dancer. "Do you still want
to take a hula class?" I asked her.
"Yes. And big airplane."
I told her that I thought I could arrange the hula class but that the plane
would have to wait for a while. She's at that age where she thinks I can
arrange pretty much anything that she asks.
Life with Maia can be so sweet.
