more OCD-ish lately |
Lately I've not only been doing my usual compulsive repeated checking. I've
also become obsessed with fear of catching a contagious disease and I'm now
washing and sanitizing my hands so often that the skin is starting to get
irritated. I was of course already previously washing my hands after
visiting the restroom, and using a paper towel to avoid touching the door
handle of the restroom. However, now I wash my hands much more thoroughly
and much longer than before, and not only after restroom visits.
What set this off was learning about the highly contagious Nora virus that
causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea etc. If I remember correctly, people who
get sick remain contagious for a couple of weeks after they become free of
symptoms. So they are likely to go back to work and spread the virus.

I know that OCD can be a crippling problem. My son suffered from it for
several years.
Are you seeing a Dr? There are some great new drugs out that work very
well, and alot of really useful behavioral therapies. There's also a
technique called neurolingual repatterning that really works great.
I hope you get some relief soon. I know it can be awful to be stuck in
those cycles.

Thanks. I'm not being treated specifically for OCD, since my symptoms
are not severe enough for the official diagnosis of OCD. From what I've
read, I'm almost at the level of official OCD, though, and my symptoms
are very irritating. Maybe I should talk to my pdoc about this again.
