Bush Warns on Foreign Oil Dependence
By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer
Monday, September 4, 2006
(09-04) 09:26 PDT Piney Point, Md. (AP) --
President Bush said Monday the economy is growing steadily and jobs are
plentiful, but America must work harder to break its dependency on foreign
oil. Making a Labor Day appearance at Maryland's Paul Hall Center for
Training and Education, which offers vocational training to Seafarer's
International Union members, Bush said "dependence on foreign oil
jeopardizes our ability to grow."
"Problem is, we get oil from some parts of the world and they simply don't
like us," he said.
[No kidding! People in most parts of the world don't like us. That would
change if we stopped supporting Israel, and stopped invading foreign
countries without provocation or justification.]
"The more dependent we are on that type of energy, the less likely it will
be that we are able to compete and so people can have good paying jobs."
Bush also said he is interested in new technology that advances that
produce battery-operated cars and allows people to fuel their vehicles with
ethanol, particularly in Farm Belt states. And he made a fresh push for
greater development of nuclear energy.
"Nuclear power is safe and nuclear power is clean and nuclear power is
renewable," the president said.
[Safe??? Surely Bush must remember Chernobyl. Renewable???]
[...]
Bush again called on Congress to make permanent a host of tax cuts, saying
"I like it when people working for a living have more after-tax money in
their pocket."
[... especially the wealthiest people?]
He said people in all walks of life should work hard to ensure that "our
workers have the skills necessary to compete in the 21st Century."
[And what, if anything, is Bush going to do to enable workers to get the
skills they need?]

that. I want to tell you something very clear: don't worry about American
pressure on Israel; we, the Jewish people, control America, and the
Americans know it." - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001
"We have the Israelis coming to us for equipment. We can say we can't
possibly get the Congress to support a program like this. And they say
don't worry about the Congress. We will take care of the Congress. This is
somebody from another country, but they can do it. They own, you know, the

Sweet Evil Jesus, he really did say that nuclear power is "renewable".
(Does he still pronounce it "nookular"?)

Renewable... just wait 650,000 years and you can reuse those atoms.

Yeah...<snicker>...well, he also said..."The point now is how do we work
together to achieve important goals. And one such goal is a democracy in
Germany." ~ George W. Bush, D.C., May 5, 2006.
And there you have it.

My favorite was something like "Africa is a nation of people interested in
freedom."

Renewable was a bad choice of words. But he was likely speaking of the
abundance of uranium with which we can power ourselves long after the oil
is gone. They should get to work on Tritium reactors also which, as I
understand it, can make just as much energy but with cleaner by-products
that can't be used for bombs.
Good thing the Orion program is moving forward to go back to the moon.
Hopefully they can find the Helium-3 they suspect may exist there in vast
quantities.
These opportunities all beat renewable power sources. Yeah, we have
millions of people starving to death in the world so let's turn food into
automotive fuel... that makes sense.

....or we could just build the fast breeder reactors we should have built
20 years ago.
