Object: my friend called
my old ex-best friend called tonight. said she'd gotten my
letter today and had to get right back in touch with me.
apologized for leaving me hanging for years now. apparently, i'm
not the only person who's had problems with her never initiating
contact. said she's always been like that.
she's going on a 2-week driving trip in a few days with an old
friend from high school, all over california and arizona and
into nevada. i gave her the phone number of a mutual friend
who's living in las vegas now. she said she'd be in touch with
him about getting together for dinner when she drives through,
and that she'll call me when she gets back.
i'll be pleasantly surprised if i hear from her after her trip.
i might go ahead and call her in a month or so, though. it's
good to have a friend again.

I hope it works out for you...I've made lots of efforts to reconnect
with old friends.90% of the time,it doesn't work out,10% of the time it
does...but that 10% can be meaningful...and the way I look at it is,it
never hurts to reach out to people. At least when you do that, you know
that you initiated a nice gesture, whether it was recipriacted or not...

Why do you think that? In your original post you indicated that she called
right after receiving your letter. Think positive! :-)

that was a good thing :-)
however, my letter was stating that i hadn't been in touch
with her for years because she would never call me. on the
phone the other day, she admitted that this is a problem for
her, and she doesn't know why. in my letter, i said that i
could only be friends with her if she initiated contact
sometimes. since she said she'd let me know when she returned
home from her trip, we shall see if she really does.

I see. I am actually a bit like your friend. I have trouble keeping up
with old friends and initiating contact from my side. I think about calling
someone but it's always at a bad time because of the time difference or I'm
at work or some other excuse. I never seem to remember to contact someone
when it's a good time. I should add things like that to my calendar or task
list...lol.
I hope your friend calls you when she gets back. Friendships are definitely
worth preserving. I've got some phone calls to make myself. :-)
