Object: My Frog Croaked
or didn't, or something.
I have a small garden pond in my back yard, and most years it seems to
attract one frog. He sounds lonesome, and I never get tadpoles.
Earlier this month I got a couple more frogs at the water garden
nursery here in town, one of the new ones was a male, and they "sang"
together. It was pleasant and amusing listening to the two of them
together. After about a week the new one stopped "singing" and only
the old one still makes any noise. I suppose something caught the new
one, a cat or bird or something. I miss him.

Who was the famous California writer that wrote that story about the
frogs that were so noisy at night he couldn't sleep. So he was
advised to get an alligator (baby) to keep them quiet?
Anyway, apparently frogs are supposed to breed quite ferociously.
Maybe you just have to wait awhile.

Mark Twain wrote about frogs in california, I'm not sure about that
particularly story, tho.
I'm thinking of going to the creek and stealing some eggs, kind of
help nature along. these things are amazing loud, an inch or two long
from that makes a noise that can be heard across the street with the
doors and windows shut.

Hi Charles,
I can understand how you can become fond of a small animal. Perhaps he
just went off exploring and is ok?
I suppose you can get some tadpoles from another location; but what do
tadpoles eat?

maybe you need more bugs around your pond. I could go outside with a
net and catch a few million for you, if'n ya want. :-)

I wondered about that, but I don't know. they seem to be Chlorous
Frogs, who gather into an area and croak together, like a bunch of
guys showing off for the girls. they don't ,match the descriptions in
the books, and the ones I think they are the book says don't live
around here, so there is a lot of guessing going on.
in areas where they are more common, many will be "singing" at the

happened that way. wild life is wild.

where I used to live in the Bay Area, my complex was perched on a
steep hill that wasn't fully developed and therefore I could hear
thousands upon thousands of frogs singing during mating season.
thousands upon thousands
upon thousands
I could even hear them with the windows all shut (which was actually
rather rare)
Interestingly, it didn't drive me nuts as most repetitive bug noises
do. But then, I guess they're not bugs, so that must be why they

I used to live at this apartment complex and they had a problem with
locust (sp?). As you probably know, they are big green bugs. They were
so loud all the time it got to the point where we didn't notice them
anymore.
Sometimes they'd be right at the door and we'd be afraid to go
out!! :-o

ewww locusts... ick. On various TV shows here and there that are
based in Texas, I've heard a loud buzzing sound in the background.
Those would drive me nuts. I wonder what they are.

thousands upon thousands

upon thousands

I could even hear them with the windows all shut (which was actually
rather rare)

Interestingly, it didn't drive me nuts as most repetitive bug noises
do. But then, I guess they're not bugs, so that must be why they
didn't bug me. <roll eyes at self>

I wonder what they are.

sounds like cicadas, maybe spelled like that.
They make a 100 degree day seem like 120 degrees.
