My Introduction (first post) |
Hey everyone,
My name is Clark. I have High-Functioning Autism, Schizophrenia, and
Panic Disorder. I have been hospitalized twice, the first time in a
children's
hospital, with the second time being at a university hospital. I am no
stranger
to intense panic, anxiety, delusions, muscle seizures, and more. Right now,
I
currently am going to be fully transferred from a Schizophrenia Rehab Day
Program I was in, to a local Mental Health Team (I live in Canada, and am
17).
But enough about me.
I've been reading a great book of late: How To Stop Worrying and Start
Living, by Dale Carnegie (I highly recommend you read it). In it, there's a
whole chapter that basically states that worry and anxiety can definitely
cause rhumatism, diabetes, high-blood pressure, skin problems, stomach
ulcers, and general body and mind pain. And I haven't even gotten to panic
and hallucinations.
Anyway, if you have any problems, concerns, questions, or simply wanna talk,
post in this forum and I'll do my best to answer ASAP. Meanwhile, hope you
have fun, and enjoy life to the fullest.
Have a good time,
Clark.

Thanks for such a warm welcome :)
Well, besides meds, I use auditory neurobiofeedback, listening to Mozart for
at least 1 hour everyday, as well as jazz, pop, blues, electronic,
alternative, world beat, and 70's and 80's music (like Air Supply, Journey,
Nickelback, Chicago the Band, the Pointer Sisters, Default, Dead Can Dance,
Paula Abdul, Bananarama, Evanescence, and more). I also use muscle
relaxation techniques, lessons from the works of Napoleon Hill, W. Clement
Stone, Dale Carnegie, Mark Victor Hansen, and Jack Canfield, as well as Bill
Harris, who is the head honcho for a Centerpointe Research Institute, a top
neurobiofeedback product R&D and marketing company. Also, I have multiple
contacts within the MCFD, VCHA, and the DDA (Ministry of Child and Family
Development, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and the Developmental
Disabilities Association respectively), which include two social workers, my
case worker, my respite caseworker, multiple psychiatrists, and other mental
health professionals that help me out considerably.
Sounds like a lot, huh? In all honesty, most people who are 17 and in my
condition spend over two years getting access to only half of the services I
get, partially because I have been diagnosed with each condition multiple
times by multiple professionals in multiple places, as well as being
diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder once by a professional at a
diagnostic centre. The other part, is that I am extremely resourceful when
it comes to work, play, and everything else in between.
That, and more, is the really good side of Autism. If I had the chance to
change and/or what conditions I have, I wouldn't change a thing. Not that I
like what I have, I don't. But Autism, Schizophrenia, Panic Disorder, and
PTSD, as well as everyone and everything involved, have taught me more about
love, life, principles, ideals, and being a genuinely good and altruistic
person, than any other set of experiences in my life. In other words, my
greatest nemesis (multiple) have been my greatest and best teachers.
Thanks,
Clark.

Wow, you're a sting person to be able to deal with all those issues and
still be functional. I can barely deal with my mild depression so I am awed
by your fortitude.
