good thoughts, good vibes, prayers, whatever .....
She went in for an angiogram and a carotid artery stent, but during
the angiogram, they found a blockage near her heart. They tried to
put a stent in that spot, but something wasn't right about it, so
they're going to try again tomorrow.
They're not going to do the carotid artery stent, but instead will go
in and clean it out some other way (dad didn't explain that).
She's very uncomfortable and very worried and needs all the good vibes
she can get).

Well, from why I've read, the other treatments are pretty good. A little weird,
but good! :) What hospital is she in?

I have a brother in law in the hospital right now that may have some
blockage as well. He's gonna get some catheterization done, from what
my Mom says.

No! All of this stuff is miraculous. :)
About three years ago, a friend's father was going to have a new operation to
relieve angina not relieved by bypass surgery. So, I read up on it quite a bit.
The pain is caused by a lack of blood and therefore oxygen to the heart muscle
itself. So what they did is use a laser to send pulses to make holes in the
left ventricle. About 30 of them. And it had to be done in between heart
beats. So, before the heart muscle contracts, freshly oxygenated blood seeps
into the holes, into the heart muscle, thereby bringing it oxygen. Oh, yeah,
these holes are the size of capillaries. The cutting into the heart muscle also
causes new capillaries to form - sort of like when you pinch off a plant.
Better yet, they no longer have to do open heart surgery but perform it by
catheter, so it's minimally invasive.
But, really, isn't this the neatest idea? I should of thought of it. It makes
perfect sense.
Now, wombn's mom isn't having that type of surgery but I believe the techniques
they will use are just as advanced. And that's pretty damn good!

It's all absolutely amazing.
My dad's had 3 open heart surgeries (total of 9 bypasses). I'll bet
he won't need a 4th with all these new fangled ways of doing things.
Good thing, too, cuz they said they didn't know where they were going
to get an artery for another bypass if he needed it.
It's also a little scary because my Dad is scheduled next week to get
his "eyes cleaned" (IOLs) so he can't see all that well right now and
he has to do all the driving. And he can't drive at night at all.
If this goes on beyond tomorrow, I might beg him to let me fly down
there and help him out with all that driving.
