Object: My, what an uneventful week I just had!
I sure am glad my emlpoyer decided to deny me a vacation, yet again,
because I was just so incredibly vital to the survival of the firm.
I did a whole half financial statement set for one of our clients.
This is really getting frustrating: for the past four weeks, I have
had approximately 50% billable time (meaning half the time I had
nothing to do.) I tried to take off this 3-day week, but was denied,
because "there's a lot of work for you to do, and we can't afford for
you to not be here."
Yes, that whole half set of statements.
Of course, the "new" girl got the week off with no trouble. And she
usually does get work to do (the real kicker was about a week ago,
when both of us sent out time available messages, and she was
immediately bombarded with tasks and I had nothing to do until 4:30 in
the afternoon when someone came by her cube with another job to for
her, saw she had left for the day, and only then thought to give me
the work.)
Maybe I am paranoid and there really is not a firm-wide policy of
giving her work and leaving me to twiddle my thumbs. Maybe I am
immature and management is not intentionally jerking me around by
always finding something for me to do whenever I ask for vacation
time.
But these things are becoming very, very annoying. Time for me to
start looking for another job. Management seems to be sending me a
message.

Do you get paid per hour, or based on billable hours of work?

Hi hopelost...I first want to say you have a lot of company. Welcome to the group...we all have some form of depression. Therapy and medication are the usual forms of treatment. Finding the right meds is a hit or miss process that takes time. I was lucky to find the right med for me on only the second try. Exercise also helps. In addition I go to a self help group where I have learned methods that help me with my symptoms. I'm still learning and practicing, all in all things have gotten better. One important thing I have learned is that there are no hopeless cases.
It may or may not be a good fit for you but my self help group is called Recovery Inc. and the website is www.recovery-inc.com and there are forums at www.recovery-inc.com\ members\forums
Again, Welcome to asd and I hope you find comfort and help here.
Johnm
