Object: Need you guys today - the followup
This morning I said:
Those of you who pray to a higher power, please say a little
prayer for me today. And those of you who don't, please just
think strengthening thoughts in my direction.
Cyberhugs are also welcome.
I don't want to talk about it right now, but I promise to tell
you tonight what it's all about.
**********
Okay, here's the story.
Two weeks ago I had my annual physical, including a mammogram.
It's been 5 years since the last mammo, and I didn't expect
anything out of the ordinary to turn up.
Except, my doctor called me last week and insisted she needed to
see me asap. I told her that there was no way I could come in, so
she told me over the phone.
My mammogram was abnormal. She had already made an appointment
for me to see a specialist, and that appointment took place this
morning.
I read the report from the radiologist and did a little research
on the internet (got some very useful info from the Cornell
University web site). I learned that this is a condition that
results from the normal aging process, so I figured this
appointment is meant to rule out something serious, not to
confirm it.
Of course knowing this still doesn't make it any easier to go
through. I've been thinking a lot about my mortality the past
several days.
So this morning, shortly before I left for the clinic, I asked
asd for prayers and strengthening thoughts. A couple times during
the morning I thought of you guys, and it helped me a lot to
think of you thinking of me.
Now, to put your minds at rest:
At the clinic I saw two different doctors, and had an ultrasound
examination of my breasts (heh heh, Beavis, she said breasts ...)
and I am supposed to have a biopsy taken in the New Year.
According to the doctor, the ultrasound showed no structural
anomalies. The mammogram does show clusters of calcium deposits,
however, so the biopsy is intended to find out if the cells
associated with these deposits have precancerous characteristics.
The odds are greatly in my favour, however, and as long as I have
my doctors monitor this condition, any morbid change (in the rare
event it occurs) can be dealt with before it becomes serious.
Thank you for your support and good wishes. I feel blessed to
know such good and loving people.

I had a lump in one breast several years ago, and had the mammogram,
ultrasound and biopsy all done as well. The tests were inconclusive, so I
had the lump removed. It was benign, thankfully, but I understand the fear
that you went through and are continuing to experience as you go through
this stressful situation. Even though odds were in my favor the entire
time, I was still nervous and anxious throughout the 3 weeks it took from
the first mammogram til the lump was removed. I also had to quit my AD cold
turkey before I could have my surgery. It is an MAOI which you are not
supposed to mix with anesthesia if at all possible....so I quit it cold
turkey and had the surgery 10 days later once it was all out of my system.
Everything did work out fine, though, and I just feel sure it will work out
fine for you as well Tara. I just want you to know that someone else
understands your fears at this time. Of course, ALL of us are pulling for
you as well. :-)

Thank you for your support and good wishes. I feel blessed to
know such good and loving people.

We will continue to send good wishes and prayers your way until we know that
all is clear.
Take care and keep us posted!
Hugs,

Thank you, IMM.
Actually, this showed up on my last mammogram, five years ago.
The problem is that the calcification has continued for five
years (which is normal) and now the amount of it makes it
difficult to interpret the mammogram.
Also, in a very few cases, this is associated with the eventual
growth of tumours.
So my doctor decided to treat it as a medical crisis; as you may
know, she was a family friend long before I asked her to be my
physician. I think she took it a little more seriously because of
our longtime friendship.
Although the calcification is "abnormal" in the gamut of
conditions that can affect the breasts, it's "normal" for me. And
the ultrasound has ruled out physical changes indicative of more
serious problems. So I think it's safe to assume that the worst
is over.
But just the same, it's nice to be remembered in your prayers!

I'll still keep the line open to G-d for 'ya ..

happend to me in 2000 .. I 'flunked' my mammo) ... it is still upsetting.
I'll be thinking of you .. and praying .. keep us as in touch as you are

Ok, Tara, I have been there and done that. You can imagine my panic
having had two different cancers already!
{this is not turning into a "my panic is worse than your panic" post,
honestly it is not. Just wanted to tell you I know about these
so-called "normal" changes that come with age..<g>}
I am glad, very glad that all is well.
